(Nathan)UTEC w/ MAP Sensor?
Hey Nathan, You were talking w/ Ron from Axis Power Racing here in Saint Louis the other day about my Evo and the MAP sensor w/ the UTEC. I guess you were saying that it would be fine w/ the MAF instead of the MAP. From what Ron was saying, the low boost and idle may suffer from the MAP sensor. Will the UTEC be coming out w/ any provisions to allow for the use of the MAP? I am just tired of adjusting the boost due to the ever changing temerature around here. Sick of boost spikes because it's cooler out during the night at the track than it was earlier on the street. Know what I mean....
Thanks,
Jeremy
Thanks,
Jeremy
Have you tried using the closed loop boost control? Thats what the map sensor is frequently used for on the UTEC.
There is some truth about idle and low boost issues related to using a speed density setup, but the UTEC (From what I'm aware of) isn't really using the MAP sensor in that way.
You can use the MAP sensor to use for load reference fueling instead of the MAF sensor input, but from what I know, it still doesn't allow you to totally remove the MAF sensor.. Of course, this portion of the documentation on the UTEC is pretty lacking and doesn't explain all the possible options and features that you can use the MAP sensor for.
If your concerned about hitting the limits of the MAF sensor, you can try a MAF upgrade, such as a MAF translator kit that uses a GM Hot wire sensor which I haven't tried, or the Ultimate Racing Blowthrough MAF sensor kit which I'm currently evaluating.

I can't wait to see how your setup runs with the Utec.. its a complete departure from the direction I've been going in.. PLUS it will help prove to the "Standalone" guys that there are other ways to do this.
