Hesitation when running TXS stage 1 map
I just recently got my UTEC and installed it. Currently I am at switch position 0 and have uploaded the TurboXS stage 1 map to switch position 1. Driving around on 0 works fine, obviously since it is just passing everything to the stock ECU, but when I select map 1 and start driving a strange “hesitation” happens as the rpms are raising. The hesitation happens for just a second, and then goes away completely. It is pretty consistent in that I can be lightly accelerating and it will happen or I can be accelerating hard and it will also happen.
My question is, why might this hesitation happen? I realize the stage 1 map is meant for a bone stock EVO and mine isn’t bone stock, so if that is what it causing the issue, then hopefully their stage 2 map and UTEC software will be out asap.

Its the transition between the UTEC and the Stock ECU.. The Stage1 map has a difference in timing between the stock and UTEC.. If you want to smooth it out, you can set the timing in the 10% 20% timing columns from 0-3500rpm to ECU.. This should smooth out that stumble in daily driving.. You can also adjust the boost so it comes on earlier by increasing the boost in all of the columns up 10% or so..
Do be careful adjusting your boost. Remember that our motor becomes most efficient in the 3000-4000 RPM range, that's where our torque peak is. If you run too much boost in that area then the cylinder pressures can run very high and detonation is likely to occur. My personal recommendation is leaving the boost tables in the Stage 1 map alone and just adjust the boost with your boost gage. Try not to allow over 21 or 22 psi. Do what Jack said first. Retard the timing...little bits at a time unless you use the ECU setting.

The boost tables actually do go all the way to 100% across the board, so he won't actually get much higher boost than he already has.. But he can get it to come on a bit earlier like it does stock.. The way the stage1 boost parms are set, the car feels more laggy than it does stock, so all this adjustment will do is closer reflect the onset of boost that you would get when the boost solenoid is operating like stock.. (boost solenoid stock is on or off)
Right, Jack. I know what the boost tables look like, I have a UTEC. All I'm saying is watch out with applying too much boost in that RPM range. I've seen more guys blow their motors at 3000 RPM then at 6000 RPM because they got stupid and played with their wastgates thereby creating too high cylinder pressures and either blowing a head gasket or putting a hole in a piston.
