Ashtray wideband mount - Stealth mode!
I am sticking trying to go with a stock appearing interior on my new Evo VIII. However I need to tune it and with that I need a wideband o2 sensor. I looked at available gauge mounting solutions and didn't like what I saw. I wanted something out of sight, but easily accessible when needed. With that in mind I decided to install my Innovate LC-1 wideband inside the factory ashtray, which is completely out of sight when not needed. I have seen gauges mounted on top of the ashtray or though the ashtray before but not inside. I thought this was a pretty clever little spot so I ran with it.
Some might think that this is a bad location as it is not in my direct line of sight while driving. However I have been tuning my DSM for a few years now and a wideband is not something I'm looking at all the time. I usually only look at it when I doing a pull just to verify that it still matches my log. When I need to do that I'll just pop open the ashtray and take a glance.
This took me about 2 hours this evening. I went into it with an idea, but pretty much made up how I was going to do it as I went. I'm very happy with the way it turned it. Let me know your thoughts on this!

The stock ashtray

I only cut out the hump in the ashtray and the light under it.

The aluminum bracket I made up to hold the gauge.

What it looks like from the underside.
