~Hole in back of turbo...~

Hey everyone~

Just a quick question for you guys:

I almost have the turbo completely finished. But, a quick question....if you're looking down at the turbo (like you're in front of the car), there's the hole for the oil line; which is directly on top of the turbo; and then there is a hole in the back of the turbo. What is that hole used for, or what does it connect to? Thank you all in advance!

I am tired an I can't picture what you just said. So any pics of it would be helpful...

But I think you're talking about the coolant passage?

It might be.......

Picture the turbo completely installed in the car. Now one end of the steel braided oil line attaches to the hole directly on top of the turbo. Then if you look around the back of the turbo (hole facing the head). I'm not sure what that hole is, or what it should connect too.......

A picture would sure help... Even if it's a pict taken from another car. Show us what you mean.

This is the best picture that i could find. See on my turbo the hole with the GREEN circle is capped off (i bought in from vicious) and the RED circle is the steel braided oil line. But there is a hole close to the size of the GREEN circle, but in the exact opposite location on the turbo (the back)......

The hole you speak of is a fitting for if you wanted to water cool the turbo. They can be plugged, or they can be left open, doesn't really matter. You have the option to water cool the turbo to provide extra cooling and to help keep the oil that circulates through the turbo cooler as well. But it isn't a necessity. In the pic you posted, the green circled hole that is capped off is also for water cooling. It is the same thing as the hole in the back.

Yeah OZLancer is right, I would recommend you to water cool your turbo later or now for faster spool, just like what Boe did.

Check out my stickie thread here on FI section and there are couple links about water cooling your turbo, one of them has Boe's explanation.

EDIT: Nevermind, here is the link, https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ighlight=turbo
