Cat Questions For The Turbo Guys

Are you guys running stock cat? Im in the works of removing it b/c FL we dont have emission and i can get away with it. I was planning on cutting it out and welding a piece of stainless steel on there or the other option was to get the high flow cat or the test pipe?

What have you guys done and what are your expierences?

Just get a test pipe. It's easy and it works great.

yeah test pipe or if that's to loud a highflow cat. I've seen many like the HFC's as they give you some more low end torque.

if u want a homemade high-flow cat and they don't have emissions in your state you can remove your stock catalytic converter and do a little bit of... porting on it (handle end of a hammer.) and make your own high-flow cat. be adviced though, you will then have no replacement cat. and a test pipe/high flow is definately cheaper than a stock catalytic converter.

You'll probably pick up 10 hp just from getting rid of your cat on a turbo car.

Carlos,
Are you sure that you want to do it? You might get a CEL and be forever in limp mode.

Also, if you get the wrong material or length of the tube, you'll get horrible noise coming from it. Greddy naturally sounds good . . . now, you'll amplified the noise level. It can vary as much as the sterotypical weedwhacker or bumblebee sound like some stereotypical H&A products or sounds like an old muffler that needs to be replaced. Remember, the more noise = more attention from thugs and cops.

Besides, the HP that you'll gain is negligible, unless w/ some tuning.

I'm never a person to advocate the use of test pipes. High flow cats are a much better way to go IMO. Less CO, less NOX, less unburned fuel coming out your exhaust. HP differences are negligable.

i might just go with the high flow cat then.

I'm somewhat okay, just tons of stress.

You have turbo, now? Otherwise, you just need some tuning. Did you talk to Cory, djphatrock? He's was in a similar situation as you but NA w/ backfiring, running rich, and stuff.
