Exclamation Running way too lean

I got this pm from a fellow member. I won't disclose his name since he doesn't know yet I'm posting what he sent. I'll let him say who he his when he gets on the thread. But he sure needs some advice. He's running 14:1 A/F under boost Geez... I'm around 13.x on a N/A setup.

I went from stage 2 to stage 1 and fixed all my exhaust leaks but i was having some issues w/ the kit cause i was running 6:1 in my vortech rising rate fuel regulator so we changed it back th the 12:1 which RRM recommends.

Took it to get dyno'd yesterday and I was running lean. He said I have running "14:1" lean, i dunno what that means.

i dunno what to do, ive been keeping it under boost when driving so i dont hurt my car.

if its the stage 1 kit then it would have upgraded fuel pump, stock injectors, vortech 12:1 FMU

omfg detonation will happen! lol, he's about to prematurly ejaculate his car running that lean! has to be something in his fuel tuning or something along the way of the fuel before it gets to the engine.

Exacly.

Is there a way to test the efficiency of those things?

sure.

fuel pump: hook a battery up to it and measure how much fuel it expels with a measuring cup while timing it.

vortech fmu: hook up a fuel gauge between the rail and fpr then use a compressor on the vacuum nipple of the fmu. then just see if the ratio is right.

injectors: hell, i dunno how to check this. you'd have to send it in somewhere.

i can't think of any easier way.

i always thought this setup should yield around a 11:1 AFR, i figure if the pump ain't bad and the injectors are okay, then there is an intake side leak and the fmu isn't seeing enough boost to deliver the right amount of fuel. gotta make sure the hose to the fmu is zip tied and what not. maybe plug up the cruise control nipple while you're testing things out.

but it could still be the fuel filter, fuel pump or injectors. i've heard of new pumps failing. i know that stock injectors aren't quite balanced well with each other. i haven't had to change my fuel filter either and it's been 126k miles.

i'm waiting on a dyno sheet with an AFR graph.

Keep it out of boost, but take it to another place to have the AFR checked. I can't count on all my countable body parts how many times I've heard of people making radical changes to their setup because a dyno's sniffer said they were rich (or lean) only to find out the WBO2 came with the dyno and had seen about 100K miles of use or was otherwise reading poorly
Get a second opinion.

rhyzin and alchemist, you both made very good points. I'll point the guy to this thread and I'll make sure he does something about it.

I also have seen new fuel pumps failing. When I installed the turbo kit on my buddy's ride, we were feeling something was wrong... turned out the brand new fuel pump was crap. Thanks for the info and keep the suggestions comming
