would the SMIC fit behind the stock lancer bumper or would I need to get an aftermarket bumper ? I know that with the SMIC I would have to get custom piping done, but I'm ok with that since my one friend has a pipe bender in his garage
Also, looking through the forums, I saw that some twin turbo cars (supra's ? I might be wrong, I forgot) use 2 SMICs, but how about doing like a serial setup, have the air go through 2 SMICs with just one turbo ?
Again, these are just questions, might even be stupid, but if/when I go turbo, I'll do SMIC for sure (1 or 2, depending on possibilities )

"An alternate design, often referred to as a charge cooler, uses water or a water/antifreeze mix to cool the charge, then cools the water in a separate radiator. While heavier and more complex, charge coolers can often make arranging the rest of the engine much simpler. This approach is also known as Water To Air (WTA). A variation on this type of charge cooler substitutes a reservoir of coolant for the radiator, allowing the use of an icewater mixture that can bring outlet temperatures well below ambient air temperature even under very high boost pressure. Because of the limitations on the volume of icewater that can be stored and circulated, this approach to charge cooling is only practical for short durations, making it most common in drag racing and land speed record attempts."

Taken from Wikipedia.
I don't know if I want to do that, it does say that only limited amounts of water can be stored. Either way, thanks for the suggestion, that's what I am looking for, suggestions

A SMIC is more stealth then a water-to-air IMO. Besides how much do you want to spen on a setup like that. If I am not mistaken Water-to-air is like $1500 and up.

Stick with SMIC

IMO, this would be the best way to go for the stealth look and still maintain proper performance from an IC! That looks great. I would just do a little research on what you use to paint it. I have heard some negative results using things like latex paint.

I ahve also heard of people anodizing it black but I think the "flat black" makes it dissapear better.

Do you know what he used to bl;ack out his IC?

yes they are generally smaller than FMICs because they have to fit in a smaller area. certain cars run 2, but it isn't necessary. you don't need a massive intercooler to get the job done, especially in the lancer.

Lots of stock turbo'd cars run SMICs. The 300zx TTs run twin SMICs and the 1.8t VWs (and the newer 2.0ts I believe) run an SMIC as well. There is also a Volvo IC that alot of turbo Miatas run that is small but efficient.

If you are going black than I'd suggest anodizing (sp?) rather than painting. Yes, it might be a little shinier, but you'll maintain most of the IC's heat dissapation properties. Paint of any type will most likely drop the efficiency of the IC.

As it was stated earlier, just run a FMIC and show off a little.

Top Mounts are useless... They're bad on subaru's... and they'll be bad on normal cars... They don't cool well because the engine heat rises. Unless if you have a transverse (box) mounted engine, there are no benefits... Plus all my subie boys went front mount.. It's better. Especially in traffic....

if my itty bitty smic can handle 16+psi on a small stock turbo (audi tt) it can easily handle 7psi on a larger turbo (less heat)

True, but your car was designed to use those SMICs, I wouldn't even know where to fit them on a lancer. A FMIC is by far the best option.
