how would i go about this?

hi, i am about to buy a lancer in a couple of months and had a question.

my dad has this turbo sitting in the cabinet doing nothing. i was wondering if i were able to retrofit it to work with the lancer i am about to buy.

it seems to be a turbo made by GARRETT and the inlet hole (where the exhaust goes through) is about 2.5 inches in diameter. the outlet (where it goes into the engine) is about 1.5 inches in diameter.

so how can i do this without spending loads of cash? because i am literally a flat broke 15 year old.

help me out,

chris

um sorry to tell u this but its gonna cost you. the turbo isnt what cost a lot of money. the piping, the innercooler, the wiring/timing is what cost the most. i have the same situation man. i have a turbo and no money for the rest of the stuff. sorry bro

man.. can anyone at least identify if this turbo would suit well in a lancer? if it helps any, it says H-4 PT-2 AR-48 then on the other side it says 430683. is this big or small in comparison to the turbos especially made for the lancer?

Why not go to the garrett site and see if you can find it?

youre looking at at least 1000$ in parts to put together a decent kit. And unless you are an exceptionaly skilled 15 year old youre going toneed to spend about 1500$ on install (give or take) No offense but turboing an N/A car isnt like doing a simple bolt on intake. Then itll need to be tuned so you dont blow your engine up. Id sell the turbo and buy some basic bolt ons and learn as you go.

Or sell the turbo, save up, buy a full kit and have it professionally installed.

i have skills... i did a engine swap, tranny swap, transfercase swap, axle swaps, frame swaps, and everything in between like bending and making my own kit for a jeep. i dont trust the "professionals" around here anymore than i trust myself. anyway, thanks for the price quote, i guess i just need to sell it and buy something else. how much can i get for it?

No idea, first you need to figure out what it is. As for the rest, I would still say get it done by the professionals, if they screw up, they'll fix it, if you screw up, you'll be back to picking up your dates with a bike.

Turboing a car is pricey!! And if you dont do it right then boom! Doesnt take much to blow a motor with turbo. In your case you should do a bunch of reading threw this thread and get pieces together as you go. Not having money just means itll take longer to put it on.

It's probably your usual .42/.48 turbo...It'll be fine for low boost on the Lancer. But it's the rest of the kit that'll cost yah!
