Hey guys...Questions from the subie world

Hey guys. I am from the subie world and we have a lot of respect for Mitsubishi. My 03 wrx has 315whp with a BIG16g...Thank you Mitsubishi! I am getting ready to install my next setup in a couple months expecting upwards of 350 AWD hp to the wheels......20g, 38mm EWG, 3inch catless Exhaust, 750cc incjectors, BIG top mount....ect.

Anywaz...... One of my good friends has an OZ lancer and has finally decided to go to the boost side. Right now all he has in an exhaust and an AEM intake. We have done a lot of reading on here and have decided to go with something like the RRM kit. It seems to have everything he needs for a 170-200hp application. NO tranny upgrades? I just cant belive that's all that is needed. In the subie world......if you want anything over 280whp......you must replace your tranny with stronger gears or an STI 6-speed. I chose to get a set of stonger RA gears that cost me a total of 2500.

So if there is anything else that is needed at all that isnt really talked about in the description to get the most out of the kit......let us know. From what I have gathered.....370cc injectors and a pre-programed piggyback with allow for increase in boost. Things like this is what we are looking for. Would also like to know the stock hp of the oz lancer. Thanks guys. And While I am here I might go check out some of your guys EVO members. Thanks

I'm not entirely too sure about tranny upgrades, since damn near anywhere over 300 is uncharted territory for the lancer. In order to run higher boost, however, you're gonna need to set up your friend with forged internals. You don't wanna be runnin 9-12 psi and throw a rod now do you? Good luck!!

Stock tranny is quite beefy enough. It's pretty rare for one to go, and when they do it's usually old age.

Stock CHP - 120 (so it's roughly 100 whp)

If you want to up the boost, you might want to look into internals. Pistons and rods are a wise choice. On the stock block, you can run high single-digits. Pistons and rods are both pretty weak, though. RRM sells aftermarket solutions for both, though.

Look into an LSD, though. That's a big weakness on the boosted Lancers - all the power tends to get thrown away on wheelspin. Again, RRM sells an LSD unit.

Otherwise, it's all very turn-key. The RRM kit is pretty much a perfect setup for the Lancers. And RRM will work with you to build a monster setup if you desire.

Also, if you are planning to go with an RRM kit, sell your buddy that 16G and ask RRM what they can do for you if you already have the turbo. You might be able to save a few bucks.

Thanks for the info so far guys. So you think the guys at RRM can actually fab. a kit for my BIG16g. I am sure you already know that the big 16g is diffrent than just a 16g. 50cfm to be exact. Not to mention it pulls like an 18g with the spool of a 16g. LIke I said above. I didnt push my car to much to get that 315whp. It would be pretty fun to see what it would do for his lancer, even at only 7psi.

As far as traction problems go.......they are as unheard of in the subie world as tranny problems are unheard of here. But that should be expected on an AWD. Some guys do install LSD diffs when they do the six speed swap on the WRX...but its not really to important if you ask me. I could see its importance with the lancer though for sure.

Internals are the next upgrade of importance I take it? Makes sense when your uping your HP by close to 100. Pistons and rods I am assuming. Now this is only needed if your wanting to exced the boost of 7psi right.

Let me know whats up guys.

Yes, you want to do pistons and rods. They're a definite weak point on the Lancer.

The Lancer platform definitely needs an LSD to put down the power. Even stock, it would make a huge difference. Trust me on that.

Yeah, RRM can put together a kit for you. I'm sure you'll get a good deal since you already have the snail and you're just getting the rest of the parts.

RRM can do it, they use a regular 16G on their normal kits I think and are using a 20G on their drag lancer.

I've heard that the lancer can take up to around 9-10psi, but that's PUSHING IT. I'd go for forged internals if you're going to boost. period.

It also depends on the turbo, but yeah, I think 9 lbs would be the highest I would go and even then I wouldn't drive it too hard.
