Cool stuff. Everyone picks on the small stuff, but what should be noted is the uniqueness and quality of the build. Mad props to you guys for doing something different and worthwhile.

I like how theres the big *** extension from the manifold to the turbo lol. Mine sounded pretty bad on my oz without a dp, but not that bad. Props for the install though, takes alot of research and work to put something like that together.

why a top mount? A front mount would be more efficient and just as cheap (evo VIII), also that car sounds HORRIFIC. I understand the whole open downpipe thing but he has some other problems besides that. It seems like the idle is way too low as well. Good luck with it, it should be a beast eventually, I just hope they actually know what they are doing...

Why a top mount? It means shorter, simpler intercooler piping which means quicker throttle response. And on top of that it's different. In regards to efficiency... the difference between top mount and front mount is very small that it doesn't really matter on this car. The car still wasn't tuned up to the point when this video was shot... it was running rich and had no downpipe. I'm sorry if you guys can't stand the noise and all... but it was unfinished at the time.

That car now has a custom exhaust system and is tuned... and it ends there

I don't mean to be rude, but it kind of made me laugh at the loudness on the drive up the street. When the Honda Element went by, I thought it must have been making all the noise, and then I realized that it was the boosted lancer still a ways up the road. I'm sure it sounds better now.

I personally don't like to cut corners and neither do most other turbo kits... That is why companies like RRM chose to use the front mount over a top mount, for a good reason.

Post up a vid when he gets it tuned and the exhaust on. Unless he blows up the car before then... Because, if it was sooo untuned that it was causing that diesel sound then why in the world was he hammering on it?

There is nothing wrong with a top mount, if it's good enough for a 300 hp STI, it's good enough for a lancer. They are just as efficient as a front mount when the car is moving. It's not cutting corners, it's simply going for a different take on the same essential theory. Each setup has it's advantages and disadvantages.

the difference between a top mount of an STi and this top mount is huge. The STi uses the hood scoop to draw air right over the intercooler. This setup is more like a stock audi, MR2, or DSM intercooler. It loses it efficiancy very quickly.

Maybe he's going to use a hood scoop. The MS3 uses a top mount as well and it's one of the fastest cars for the money out there. The STI also doesn't draw air over the intercooler, it draws air through the intercooler. The reason why a lot of aftermarket companies use front mounts is because they're easier to plumb (the specs don't have to be as tight) and people like the way they look. If front mounts were universally better, all of us WRX and STI owners would be switching over tomorrow.

For once I agree with this man

Seriously though... this is the reason why a lot of you lancer guys don't come up in the tuning world... because a lot of you guys don't think outside of the box and try something new. Instead a lot of you go off on spoon-fed knowledge and assume that what has already been done is what can be done and that nothing else will work.

So my friend's car runs a top mount... so what? We made it work... and it works well. I can honestly say that if I was to disclose all of the modifications done to his motor, a lot of you would automatically hate on it just because it is unconventional and seems impossible.

His car at this point right now pulls VERY F*CKING HARD at less than 3 pounds of boost. It pulls harder than a Stg2 RRM kit and I would know... I've ridden in a couple of them. Believe that... cus I'm not gonna sit here and argue.

top mount makes it a more efficient sleeper turbo set up also =)

I thought about going that route but my engine bay gets awfully hot and id rather have the coldest temps possible for the intercooler.
