Boost is really all you need. EGT and AF are good if you actually tune but useless for daily driving (I don't know anyone that can watch an EGT/AF gauge intently enough to notice a problem). Oil pressure is an option.

Unless you're doing the tuning yourself, it's not needed.

I'd get a wideband even though you get it tuned so you know when something off.

Couple more questions. Does the car run relatively well with just an FMU, 255 pump, and stock injectors? Do I need a fpr if I go this route? Could I safely use my car as a daily driver without tuning by running 5-7 psi of boost. Or... if tuning is the only way to make things safe, is there a way to use ecuflash with an 06 es yet? Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as tuning with ecuflash in general goes? I understand the process of flashing... but as far as changing values.

That's what I'm doing until I get injectors( 12:1 fmu, 255 lph walbro fuel pump, and stock injectors @ 7-8psi).

If I end up doing that though, will it be safe to drive around till I can either A) afford to have it pro tuned or B) learn how to use ecuflash?

You can drive your car after as long as you go easy on it (i.e. don't go heavy on the pedal enough to build any boost). As long as you're in closed loop, the ECU will be able to keep everything in check. EcuFlash isn't that hard to learn. It's much easier to use than some people realize. As long as you have a good datalogging solution you'll be fine.

Hmm... I guess I'm confused on how I would tune it if I'm logging in a car that's being forced to stay out of boost...

The logging is for when you actually begin tuning. First thing you would do is go into EcuFlash and increase the fuel tables above 50% load from 2500rpm to redline to bump up the fuel and then begin datalogging and tuning from there.

I meant to say that you can drive the car, staying out of boost, until you get to a tuner if you're not going to tune the car yourself.

I would also consider getting rid of the FMU and just go with 440cc WRX injectors and the 255 Walbro. Much more reliable and much easier to tune.

It's more expensive to get wrx injectors and a fpr than it is to get a fmu and no injectors though. I'm trying to build this for as cheap as possible at first, and then I can always upgrade later and retune, right?.

The stock Lancer 240cc injectors are running at about 90-100% IDC at 5-7psi, depending on the turbo. They are easily maxed out. An FMU cannot correct this. WRX injectors can be had for $100-125. Also, you don't need to change out the stock FPR.

Remember, too, that since you have an '06 your engine is running a returnless fuel system.

Yeah I did read previously about mine having the returnless fuel system. What differences will that make as far as installing goes? Hopefully none... but does this mean that my tune is going to require more fuel than the previous models with the returning fuel system?

And just to clarify, you're saying to run wrx injectors with the fuel pump of course and nothing else for fuel except for of course tuning w/ ecuflash? Have you been doing this?
