Evo VIII 16g Build

Custom 16g Build

What I have thus far:
  • 16g Evo VIII Turbo w/o2 Housing and 9.8 Hotside ($325)
  • Megan Racing Turbo Manifold ($280) (Chele)
  • Evo VIII OEM Optional Gauges (Boost, Oil Temp, Volt) w/Boost Controller ($120)
  • OEM Evo VIII Intercooler w/Piping ($135)
  • 440cc WRX Injectors (70) (www.nasioc.com)
  • Walbro 255 Fuel Pump (Speed Corp) ($100)
  • Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator (JEGS) ($155)
  • Injen Short Ram Intake ($150)
  • 1st Gen Eclipse BOV w/Flange ($40)
  • Forge Wastegate Actuator ($100)
  • 5-10 lbs Low Boost Spring ($30) (Speed Corp)
  • Gauge Pillar Pod ($35)
What I Need: (Please Add if I Am Missing Anything)
  • Couplers and Clamps
  • Oil/Coolant Return Lines
  • Downpipe/Full Exhaust
  • Flashed ECU
  • Slim Fans
  • Gaskets
This is just the list I have made off hand. I may have missed a few things, but I covered the majority. If anyone can help me with the rest of the parts I need it will be greatly appreciated. I am going to be running stock internals for now with lower boost and a good tune while I slowly build my spare engine with internals during the summer.

Without this website I wouldn't have even considered turboing my lancer. Thanks for all who helped so far. I know there are a ton of turbo threads out there, I just thought that I would make one and keep everything up to date. Feel free to add anything to the list and/or if you have anything I need I am paypal ready.

^ hate to be the nay sayer again.. but really a wideband isnt really 100% needed.. and i know 90% of the people will say other wise. but for a basic turbo'd street application, a lower boost street car, that has been tuned by a professional, u shouldnt need to monitor your AFR 24/7. it looks good, and its functional and actually is accurate, but not really a essential part for it to run properly. it is a smart buy if u know what your looking at and someone has explained it indetailed to u what isnt safe and what is safe, but still not needed if ur not tuning and ur using a professional to tune your car.

Yes i do have one, and yes i do suggest u get one also

ok.. now let the flaming of what i just said begin.

Thanks for the help. I don't really want this to turn into an argument about what I do/don't need but I am looking as of right now the safest way to run on my stock internals to give me more time to build my engine. I would appreciate the help a lot when you get the chance to come down from Madison. An ECU Flash is really not something I want to mess around with when I have no understanding of the program or tuning process.

As for the wideband o2 sensor. Where would I be able to get one?

And another thing I still need is an exhaust. I don't want to go expensive on one but I still want a nice loud and deep tone. Are there any three inch exhaust systems out there (like an ebay) that is compatible with our lancer?

i agree with demon here.
you can get a wideband from AEM, Zeitronix, and Innovate.
or you can just get a turbo piggyback from rrm if you dont want to mess with tuning.

oh and ebay tbe is fine. i guess?

so what would anyone classify as a built engine?

pistons
rods
and camshafts

or is it just a complete rebuild with better types of metals?

id personally go with the zietronix wideband. i have one and love it. ecu flash is the only way to go, if you want it to be consistent. greddy makes some nice exghausts as well if yur looking for one, or go complete custom for a 3".

rrm's piggy is whack and it sux. when i had mine it was way too rich for their base tune and if you already got 440's those are the way to go. a lot more consistent in the fuel delivery as long as its told so in the ecu.

I am building my engine with low compression pistons, forged rods, and going to have my throttle body and intake manifold bored also. I am also going to change out all of the gaskets and get a new timing belt.

So there isn't any 3 inch ebay exhaust that will bolt up is what your saying? I am now heading towards going the custom 3 inch route because my buddy can bend the exhaust to the right angles.

For a wideband, I want to go the best, most accurate route but I really never factored that into my list so money is going to be tight. If anyone has an old one or knows where I can get a good deal on one that would be great.

for our cars 3" is full custom. the greddy ones are 2.5" i believe. aem makes a good wideband but i like the zietronix better.

Ok, I think I am going to go with the AEM Wideband. Do you know any good deals on where I can get my couplers and oil/return turbo lines?

Oil feed i got off ebay. And it was honestly was really high quality surprised me. And for a drain i did cut the stock oil return right before first coil. bought a 5/8" barb fitting. Then i drilled and j/b welded my fitting (brass) into my oil pan. Then went to TSC and got 1 foot of 5/8 hydralic line.

Not trying to be rude but I don't plan on adding it to my list how hard is it to keep your engine running for a few minutes to cool the turbo? But hey if you can find a good deal on one grab it. But I prefer not to spend the money on it, unless it has another purpose?
