RRM vs. Turbokit.com Question

Ok guys i wana know what your opinions are on these turbo kits... Im a DSMer and kinda new to the lancer 4g94. I have reasearch the engine and what it can handle but i want to find a good starter turbo kit. Ive done some searching and it seems that people seem to be happy with the RRM turbo kit but i cant find anything about the Turbokit.com kit. And also are there any other turbo kits out there for the Lancer? Im not looking to make massive power, i have my DSM for that. just want a little more power but still be reliable and pass emissions. Thanks

I remember a few years ago when Turbokit.com came out. Everybody went nuts because their prices were so low compared to RRM. Next thing you knew, everybody went back to praising RRM. The fitment wasn't really impressive on the Tubokit.com kits. So people either went back to planning an RRM kit, or went the "build it your way" type kit.

Tubokit.com kits are basically the "kits" you'll find on ebay with knock off compressors, shady electronics and so on. But realisticaly, you could get the kit and keep some of the parts, such as charge pipes, intercooler and replace the rest with parts where quality actually matter to you. Then sell whatever parts you haven't used from the kit.

I don't think you can get much worse than RRM. Get it custom fab'd.

the turbo-kits.com kit is really for a mirage basically, atleast thats what i heard. the down pipe is short and many pieces fit like crap. i bought an RRM kit instead, the install was pretty direct. im happy with it, though through the years it kinda became half RRM kit/ half custom coz i had a few of things custom fabbed. lol

actually when I read these forums more people were happy with thier custom 16G kit than rrm because it was way too pricey to buy from RRM, I did my own custom turbo kit on my car and I am far proud with the results!!! I just need a decent tune and im boostin ready.

Turbo kits.com runs a t-25 which maxes out at 250 hp
RRM thier turbo doesnt look like the Evo 8 turbo but they claim it is... I dont know much about thier turbo but I think it maxes out around 350 to 400 im not sure.

Custom which is a 16G off the evo 8 which I think maxes out around 350-400, but I have seen youtube videos of evo guys pushing 400+ with thie stock turbos "dynoflash" so Im still kinda clueless about the 16G max out but I only plan on running maybe 275 at the most with my car

So does that mean that RRMs manifold is flanged for an evo 8 turbo? because from what im gathering here is that it would be a lot cheaper for me to piece togeather my own turbo kit than it would be to buy one from someplace... So i guess my shopping would start with an turbo manifold flanded for the evo turbo.. So RRM has one, who eles?

The missing stuff with the turbo-kits.com kit seems to be fixed, check their pic on their site. there is a pipe that is included and fixes the downpipe length problem. Anything less than a custom kit would make me unhappy, but if you want a kit I be the turbo-kits one would be just fine. Fuel seems to be where the kits skimp, with a "one size fits all" sort of solution. If you get a tactrix cable and 440's you can handle that though, and be nearly the same sort of personalization as custom.....but a little bit poorer. I've spent about 2k on all the parts for my custom, and that includes exhaust, tuning cable, wideband, and other things you just don't get with a kit.

Ok, after doing some reasearch ive found that everyone is talking about the 16g turbo used on the DSMs not an EVO8 turbo... so i basicly got the turbo, manifold and feed lines figured out. And correct me if im wrong but from what im reading the Evo 8 downpipe bolts up, so i would need that... What about O2 housing? RRM's or a dsm one or what... Again sorry im new to this motor and im trying to find as much info on here as possible before asking... And then for intercooling, the evo 8 intercooler with pipes (maybe some custom) should work, correct? Now what about intake pipe (MAF to turbo) all custom?

rrm's mani is flanged for a dsm turbo. speedcorpse is flanged for an evo 8 turbo. choose what 16g you want and then go from there. i have the evo3 big 16g dsm turbo in my car and it works great.

also once again figure out what turbo you want an evo 8 or a dsm, because that will determine your dp as well. an evo 8 dp will not work with a dsm turbo since the hotsides are different and the wastegate and the turbine wheels are flopped locations.

as for the pipes all the ic pipes and ic will work. get an evo battery tray and move your battery back over the transmission and then an evo intake will work without a problem. take a look at my car if you need help with that.

Ok, I think when it comes to the time to buy the manifold ill contact speedcorps about the evo8 turbo mani... I would like to go that route (do to you compatibility thread) I plan on moving the battery to the trunk (like i did with my dsm) that way i have room for everything.. So much like with any turbo mod i would make on my dsm, i know i need injectors and fuel management.. I know the WRX injectors will work, but what do most of you guys run for fuel managment? Im not a fan of the Apexi S-AFC. And im experianced with DSMlink, so what would you guys recomend for fuel managment that is similar to link?

As mentioned here already once before tactrix cable and ecuflash. You would need these to run the wrx injectors, they are a physical drop in but you still have to configure the ecu to run them properly. Then just a walbro or GSX fuel pump and that takes care of your fuel management. I have never used DSMlink but I have heard people refer similiarites between DSMlink and ecuflash. I moved my battery to the trunk so I could put my cone filter behind the drivers side headlight where the battery used to sit.

Ahh i see... physical drop in but much like with dsmlink i would have to adjust the global and the dead time of the injectors so they will idle and run properly... And its priced great compaired to some other options ive looked at
