Upgraded cam questions!

Hey guys

So for christmas, im thinking about upgrading my intake mani, along with a cam and bigger 2.75 in exhasut. You guys here know im boosted, but would i notice a difference in power even if its only a SOHC motor? I know that RRM offers a stage one cam, do they offer something more aggressive? Also are they the only vender around that sells "upgraded cams" for the 4g94? I want something to give it that "rough idle sound" as well as better pull from 3000 RPM's +. Also would i need to re-tune my timing map or fuel map if i installed an aggressve cam? If i end up buying a cam, should i also buy an adjustable cam gear?? Just wanted to make a post because i didnt know if some of you already had cams or what your take on them is?

ask zulu or speed corps they should be able to help you.

as far as tuning the cam, you need to increase timing in the vacumm area as well as boost, and you will need to richen up your fuel map as well since when you increase timing you lean out the engine

I think the cam that RRM offers is the mirage cam. They offer it as a "stage 1 cam" but i couldnt find a "stage 2" So basically it just makes tuning AFR better? Any increese in power?

Found a pretty aggressive cam here: http://www.rpw.com.au/shop/index.php...mart&Itemid=25

There are custom profile ones you can get also!

I thought the adjustable cam gears were just so you could set timing forward or back a few degrees. If they are, you can do whatever you want timing wise with ecuflash, and if they are for something else...I wanna know. The camshaft though, should fit where the car makes power....so I don't think too rough an idle would be a good thing, because that means it's making power up higher than our engines can rev, right?

I think if its just a aggressive idle, its from the extra air entering right? Im not all to sure about cams but im going to study a bit about them, ill prob end up getting a big aggressive cam, im sure theres a way to make it work. Also they offer a valve spring kit as well for any bigger than stage 2 cams, so its something im interestred in. Also, will an evo8 manifold and throttle body fit the 4g94?

ya i bought it from him. its sitting in my bedroom, havent installed it yet.. if anyone is interested in taking it off my hands ill get ride of it (cuz i need the money right now)

RPW stage1 and 2 cams are direct swaps..
Stage3 they say u need to change out the springs.
and stage 4 cam (what i have) they say u need to change the springs and add a adjustable cam gear(and i have)
And the stage 4 cam, U can not be running higher compression setups unless u have noninterfearance pistons (have the valve depressions) and needs to be checked for clearance before using it with any setup.

(i have the stage 2 in my car still, and stage 4 sitting in my bedroom)

Sorry guys, ive been out of it the past week or so...
Past 3 days alone ive work 3 straight 17hour days.. (THANK GOD ITS MY LAST WEEK OF CLASS/CLINIC/WORK) cuz clinic and work on the same day is killin me (not really.. i actually enjoy it, but no time to do anything else, just sleep)

Ahh ok, so the stage 2 cam is what you have in the car now? is this the cam you can hear in your video? it sounds sick, gives it that awesome "throaty built motor sound" So if i were to get a stage 2 cam, just get the valve spring kit as well, then re-tune?

Yes the stage 2 is in my car in the 3 videos ive posted. But the video posted of the stage 3/4 cam isnt my car... dont forget i have my exhaust coming out my front bumper also, so it does amplify my cars cam loop a lot.
Yes that cam is what id recommend. its simple and not very drastic of a change.. But if u really want a throaty 'that cam sound nasty' sound.. Id still suggest the stage 3 or 4.. the cams costs the same, and u still need the valve springs, and u have to get a cheap cam gear adjuster.(and there not that expensive..)

Anyone using Stock compression, or Lower (so 9.5:1 - 8.8:1) id suggest getting a stage 3 or 4.. only down side to it really is that u might have a hard time starting up the car everytime you go to drive it.. (so you need a good battery, and the starter is gunna take a little bit abuse.)

Now they offer a HKS type 272 duration and 300 lift, is this more than the stage 4 cam? Also they have custom street, circut and rally cams available, do you know anything about these?? Thanks for the help man

really u need to do some research on cams and how different profiles can help/hinder surtain types of setups. How they effect powerbands etc etc. to figure out what cam you should use to best suit your car. i just know what i wanted on my car.
