Question Questions about EVO 8 Turbo Setup

Hello guys,

I have a 2003 Lancer ES, I want to do the EVO 8 turbo setup on it.
I've been reading up for while (couple of months) on turbos and I decided to go for it. Its the best and cheapest route. Even though I have been reading a lot, it seems like everybody is doing different setups, so Im not 100% certain of what I need. So I want to make sure I got everything.

Here's my list:

Evo 8 Turbo
Evo 8 Turbo Manifold
Evo 8 Intercooler
Evo 8 Intercooler piping
EVO 8 MAF? (do I need this?)
EVO 8 ECU
Walbro 255 hp pump
WRX 440cc Injectors
Manual Boost controller
Vortech 12:1 FMU (do I really need this?)
Oil Tap for Feed
Oil Return on Pan
Oil Lines
Cooling lines
Slim fan
For the Downpipe I've read it needs to be an EVO 9 extended about 1 foot, is this correct?
o2 Housing (do I need this?)
If so, I would need an Evo 8 Wastegate, correct?
Evo 8 or Evo 9 BOV?

Do I need computer management? I saw this: EVO 8 TephraMOD V7 in another thread.

As far as internals go I wanted to change are Camshaft to a Stage 1 and pulley.

If I change the Rods and Pistons can I push more boost?

Well those are all my Turbo related questions, thank you guys for your time if Im missing something please let me know .

Evo 8 manifold will not bolt up..ecuflash is a great tuning tool..if u change rods and pistons u can run more boost..but a well planned kit and great tuning is the best way to start

Yes I read you have to change the flange, which is fine by me.

Is everything else good tho?

Your manifold WILL crack/leak if you use the a evo manifold. If you are patient you can PM Beautifulpunk and he can make you a manifold.

I don't have the stock one, I have an XSPower manifold, its stainless steel.

As far as internals on a good tune you can get up to around 15psi easy. Anything past that you're getting crazy wheel spin through second so meh.

I got an aftermarket evo8 manifold on my setup but you need to port the exhaust runners alot in an angle and grind off the flange for it to fit because there is a coolant passage in the way on the right side if you're looking from the front of the engine if i remember right! Also if you have a 2003 you will need an Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator if you want to go for a good build im pretty sure. What i did was i got the Evo 8 turbo with the stock wastegate on it...it's rated at around 10-12 psi of boost and as for the downpipe i got an aftermarket dump 2.5'' with a 3'' downpipe and it fits really tight to the oil pan....a 1-2'' spacer between the dumppipe and downpipe would be perfect for fitment. Also i recomend welding your oil return fitting to do a good and safe job. You are going to need some either black plastic (for a cleaner look) or metal T's for your coolant lines from your throttle body to your turbo. As for tuning iv used Ecuflash and it worked great for me. Also you will need the oil/coolant return/feed hoses if they dont come with the turbo ur buying unless u go for the braded lines and the J pipe too. You also need an oil samwich adapter for the oil feed line. If you don't have one already too a cone air filter( in my case i got a k&n u can use their kit to wash it and it becomes brand new). And then you need a full 3'' exhaust or whatever size you want to go that will fit your downpipe. Im not sure if forgot anything but if you have any questions you can PM me!!!

the runners won't line up on any evo manifold. you will be restricting the exhaust gases and have slow spoolup and will not flow well at all. the runners will be offset causing greater temps on the already fragile ss manifold. it will crack no doubt. trying to port it will only cause more problems and weaken it.

If I weld the flange from the stock header, will it line up? I know you can weld SS and steel (even though they have different melting points). And ive read some people suggesting such thing, has anybody actually tried?

A "high quality gasket" wont help a ****ty manifold. Buy once cry once. Do it right the first time.

the flange will still be blocking the runner ports restricting flow and building up heat.

I was referring to headgaskets, don't know why you would think that would help me with the manifold.
