Intercooler question!!!

If i go intercooled....could I run more PSI safely??

like instead of 5-6 psi on stock internals could i run like 7-8 psi because of the intercooler??

sure can.. but keep in mine take a look at the pictures that link took and look close on how small the rods in our cars are, about the width of a pencil, i run only about 6-7 psi right now because my fpr sux junk and i need a c-note to get another one, but you can run it no sweat just need that boost controller or u boost spike and pooof

yea, running at 5 psi you will spike to 7 for a short period of time, if your boosting 7 you may spike to 9 (i dont know), but i DO KNOW for a fact that the lancer can be boosted at 9 psi, but i see your an auto, and so am i, so taking boost to 9 is a scary thought, nobody wants a blown tranny

Try contacting RRM . . . im sure with whatever quesitons you have about the tubro and IC - you can ask them and im sure they will have an answer.

** assuming you have their turbo and IC? **

you can boost 9. will you make more power with your stock ecu? answer is no you dont have enough fuel. at least with the rrm kit you dont. thats why you can only turn it up to like 6-7. but with their stage 2 it adds more fuel with the piggy back computer therefore you can run like 8-9 boost and MAKE power. i dont know what kind of setup you got drive02 so it may be different (if you got some sort of ecu mod. that is).

He hasn't done his mods yet.

Though it's obviously gonna depend upon your fuel setup, something running stock injectors and raised fuel pressure will run into the exact problem Boni pointed out. You can only flow so much on the stock ECU and (more importantly) stock injectors. With fuel tuning you shouldn't need an intercooler to run 9psi, but you would certainly be wise to add one. It's really going to be dependent upon turbine size too, because a smaller turbo like the T25 will be blowing hotter than a larger turbo like the T3/T4. (These seem to be the smallest and biggest turbos respectively that are commonly used). I think one thing you're going to find is, when it comes to raising the boost, heat and fuel are going yo be your main obstacles.

ok thanks...

im not sure im gonna use a t25 or an old 87-89 Starion turbo(don't know what turbo they use exactly) but im 80% positive gonna use the Starion Turbo/Intercooler setup.

Fuel wise im gonna use stock injectors , walbro 255 fuel pump, and a rising rate FPR and than an s-afc also.(disconnecting the o2 sensor so i can tune with the s-afc as some have figured out is possible)

is that enough for 7psi daily(with boost controller to stop the spiking?)

thanks guys.

The starion intercooler is crap man......if you want a cheap intercooler go with a 1/2g elipse sidemount..they flow much better and cool better too. A few guys have modded the starion intercoolers on eclipse's to have that "front mount intercooler look" just to realize their stocker yeilded much better results. Just an FYI for you. I also posted in another thread. Choosing the starion turbo over the t25 may not be a good Idea...the t25 is water and oil cooled...

Or get an NPR one. I have a nice small FMIC for sale too... it was too small for my turbo needs.

Had to correct myself here as I did in the other post "a Few quick ?'s"......starion/conquest turbos ARE oil/water cooled AFTER 1985.
