question about stage 2

i was just readin about the stage 2 kit, and i was wonderin what rrm turbo kit was necessary, do u have to get the 4K kit our can u just do the 1800 kit and add ur bov and intercooler. i dont exactly have 4k layin around, come to think of it i dont have 1800 either but that would be more possible, but i like the sounds of this stage 2 so i was just wondering if it would work w/ the cheap turbo kit

stage two is for the intercooled guys...so the tweeker kit would not work...rob also suggests your pistons to be done...and the piggy back...so if your looking to go to stage 2 without having the kit your looking at close to 6k after everything...piggyback...internals...turbo kit...thats without install

piggy back is part of stage 2.

as far as the tweaker kit goes, honestly if i were you i would call RRM, and order the intercooled kit and either save up, or get your own intercooler. You can save some $$ there by getting a used one, just make sure you get one that fits.

As for pistons, they are not needed unless you want to run higher boost, and since this is what this is all about anyways i would recommend them highly.

If one was to beef up the internals with new pistons and rods,

What would you recommend, where can you get them, and how much do they cost? Thanks.

Internals can be purchased from RRM as well. JE pistons and pauter rods. I know RRM had some rods instock a few weeks ago, not sure if they still do. Or you can contact the manufactures for custom rods and pistons (crower and others make rods and such).

im not planning on buying pistons and rods. they would only allow you to boost 2 more psi from 8psi to 10psi. granted that will be a power jump but that is alot of money for that. $1500 for rods and pistons plus shipping, and you get what a 24-26 jump in hp? not worth it imo.

with new pistoins and rods you can use higher than 10 psi. RRM went up to 13 psi when the rods blew. But that was with the stock rods. That is the weakest part of the lancer.

I think he meant the stock rods and pistons. We need to know for sure though.

"Needless to say we know that going over 10 psi is a serious risk to stock internals, that is why stage 2 is right where it needs to be for most of the guys out there" quote from rock. So it is a safety issue. But they have been running 12 psi on the drag lancer.
