Not the usual Exhaust Help Question
Not the usual Exhaust Help Question
Hey all.
So I am a bit of a n00b here, and could use some help!
I have the 2008 Lacner GTS, and LOVE IT
(I HAVE in fact searched old threads, and it is because of that I am a little confused.
Here goes)
I am looking at getting a new exhaust (pref cat-back).
I don't want something SUPER loud, but I don't want it to be too quiet either.
Looking at the Magnaflow catback.
MY QUESTION IS THIS:
I took my car to the local Mitsu dealership yesterday, and they were awesome; they did a BUNCH of work for free (even though my warranty is gone).
==One thing they found that they could NOT replace was a leak in my exhaust system. To replace this, they quoted me like 1000 or so, but he kinda hinted that it would be cheaper just to get a new system
The leak is AFTER the Cat (so they said the cat would NOT need to be replaced).
Since I'm all new to this, I know that I will need the muffler (or any Axle back system), but what is the other pipe that I need?
I have the user manual, and it looks like it is the Resonator or Converter (not too sure on these either, as this is ALL new to me)
So here's where I'm at
1.) Do I just take it to a local muffler shop and have them fix the pipe?
2.) Do they sell these parts separate? I am concerned about getting a catback system that REPLACES the Cat; I've heard this is not a good idea.
Any and all suggestions would be welcome at this point.
Thanks again for your help, and let me know if you folks need more clarification

This is a pretty delayed response, but I thought SOMEONE should. Have you been able to get the problem fixed yet? If you order a cat-back exhaust, they won't replace your cat; they'll just bolt to the back of it.
Do you know where your leak is? If it's in the resonator or muffler, you can just replace the them with an oem or aftermarket equivalent and avoid spending the money for a new system (full exhaust, cat-back, axle-back, etc.) The same goes for most spots of piping. They should be able to cut out the faulty part and weld in shiny new metal without any issues.
