How far can the stock system go?
How far can the stock system go?
how far can the stock go? The stock subs in the back and the speakers? Speaking relatively upgrading from scratch. Is it better to just get amp/sub/speakers at once, or gettin them one at time (quicker) will give a distorted feel?
my stock system made it all the way from my car to my junk closet so about 50 feet...
If you want to upgrade the stock system subs and amps should be the last thing you upgrade unless all you care about is being loud. For best sound quality upgrade the deck first then the speakers then if you want more bass throw in subs and an amp. The stock deck doesn't have enough preouts to run channels to the speakers and subs without splicing wires (which causes distortion and imperfections) A good deck should have 3 preouts if your running subs and amps. Thats my 2 cents.

I agree, but only if you have quality on your high priority list. The first step should be replacing the stock radio in any case, no matter what your priorities are. For the next step, it depends on what you want. To me, I wanted bass first, not the "rattle my car to pieces" bass, just some nice bass that I could enjoy without going deaf. I have a 12" sub powered by a 600W amp. My next step is quality sound up front. Final step is quality for the back speakers. I'm satisfied with the stock speakers for now, but once I get the components in I'm sure I'll be a lot happier. It all depends on your budget and where your priorities stand.

But I did have a chance to amp them. As long as you're not overpowering them, you'll notice a big difference in clarity. The amp will filter you low frequencies so the speakers are gonna sound much better. Just make sure you don't overpower them But I do agree on the fact that you should just get new speakers all around
You can put an aftermarket deck in without doing the speakers, but keep in mind:
your factory deck only puts out 5-10 watts RMS to each channel- and the stock speakers are the same.
Adding an aftermarket deck will be putting anywhere from 25 to 40 watts to each channel. The stock speakers are not designed for that much power and eventually you will kill them if you turn the music up moderately.
Second, an aftermarket decks audio signal has a broader frequency range than a stock speaker can play, so those notes just cause distortion, which eventually kills the speaker as well.
IMO, you wont really hear all the improvements of a new deck with out new speakers.

You need to decide how far you want to go with it in the end. This might save you money later on. For example, if you just want to amp two interiors, you can find an amp that will let you power two interiors and one sub all off of one amp.
if you just amp a sub right now, but plan on amplifying the speakers later, make sure you buy a deck with three(at least two) preouts for your amps.
If you dont plan on amplifying the interiors, buy a cheap deck that only has one preout and save some money.
One more example, if you wire up one amp right now, but plan on adding another for interiors later, make sure you lay a power wire that is heavy enough to run both.

Im pretty sure theres a difference between the stock speakers inside the 02/03 and the 04+ plus models? Can anyone confirm this?
When I replaced the speakers in my OZ I was surprised that the stock system already had a set of tweeters.
