ok, you can get the lower din opening (the cubby replacement piece) for like $19 at mitsubishiparts.net. However you can only get it in black, not beige.
When I called I wanted grey, they told me sorry they only have black.
Now if you want what they call the radio relocation kit its gonna be about 50 bucks give or take a few bucks. That you can get in the color you want.
Now you mentioned that you wanted to use the stock radio, just lower it down. For that you will need the full relocation kit because you need the mounting cage too...not just the plastic piece that replaces the cubby hole.
The reason some of the guys, myself included were able to get only the $19 plastic piece was because we changed our headunits to ones with trim rings. Basically the headunit sits in the pocket and is kept from falling out be the decorative trim piece around the unit. My unit isn't secured by any bolts or screws and can pull out with ease. It just rests in the pocket.
The stock headunit wont do this because it doesnt have a trim piece and needs to be screwed into a mounting cage.
Also I did a couple of posts a while ago when I got mine. Run a search on "lower din" or somethign along those lines

no no no no, the stock unit is designed to fit in that slot using the radio brackets that are attached to the stock unit. You merely unscrew it from your upper dash and it bolts right into the lower dash. It sits flush and looks factory.
Only reason to get that $54 jkit is if you need a color other than black and if you are going to be using the factory cd changer.
Any other questions IM me or PM me
