Well first of all, lke everyone else says, W7's can be compared with Type Rs. Your talkin about a $400-500 price difference. Now the L7 and the Type R's is also quite a jump id say, but Id say the L7's are deffinatly better. If you are only using moderate power, I would think about both the Type R's and The Kicker L5's not the L7's cuz subs are only as loud as the amount of power you are pushing. No if you are looking for something really loud, dont get the W7, it is not made for extreme bass, so dont listen to any else. They are made for a clear nice sound quality sub that offers good amounts of bass, but Id say it aint worth $600 unless you are going to compete for Sound Quality, or you wanna pretend your cool and say I got ONE JL W7, who the hell wants one sub any ways. Id say try the Type R's, you should be able to pick up 2 12's on the net for about $300 give or take, and I promise you, you will be satisfied.

Ive never seen a JBL or Infinity system that sounded better than an alipine system, and you just dont have to concentrate on RMS, ive had probally 15 sets of different woofers in the past 2 years and I always gave them more than the RMS and they were always fine. I just got new ones cuz I liked to try new stuff out. If you want some real bass Id try somethin that was custom made and isnt available in every shop, something like Digital Design....or maybe look for a used set of Shockers.....

anyways, it's really about the amp. i don't like alpines because they are pretty much the most inefficient subs i've seen. sound quality goes A LONG way. deep, tight, clean bass will sound better than loose, unclean, bass at twice the power. why do you need so much power if you're not competing anyway? one 10" sub that is real effecient is gonna sound amazing. getting lots of subs and powerful amps doesn't say much among car audio enthusiasts.

effeciency of Type R subs: 85db for 10" 87db for 12"
effeciency of Infiniti Kappa: 90db for 10" 92db for 12"
effeciency of Infiniti Perfect: 94db for 10" 96db for 12"
effeciency of JL10W7: 84.33db
effeciency of JL12W7: 86.17db
effeciency of JL w3 series: around 88-89db
effeciency of 12" eclipse sub: around 96-98db

i do agree to a point with cup, however i have had a w6 12 that blew out and currently have a type r 10... i have not ever heard a cleaner hitting sub for what i want. if ran at rms i think that for the money spent you can have a good clean sub provided u have a good box and a decent amp... i like mid bass more than anything and the Type r is for me... being a bass head was cool in h.s
1 sub or 2 or 10 for that matter isnt going to matter if you have ****ty subs or bad components to fill it in. just a thought.

I got my stereo equipment installed. All speakers are Alpine Type-R .. 4-6 1/2", 4-2 1/2" Tweeters, 2-10" Subs ... 1200w Power Acoustik Amp .. 1.2f Cap ... Alpine CDA-7894 CD/MP3 Player ...

No matter what anyone says about Alpine .. this setup ROCKS. Me likes very much. Could be louder probably in regards to THUMPING BASS .. but The small of my lower back won't tell a difference. It bumps very well. Now I'm curious how many decibles i'm pushing :P

The 6 1/2" Type-R's didn't fit very well. They are too small in size (roundness) .. so had to use a converter kit so they could mount up on holes ... Depth isn't an issue on the rear ones, but it DEFINATELY was an issue with the front ones. If you drop the window down and try to stick it in .. theres about a 1/2" gap, as the magnet is hitting the window. Had to get custom spacers to fill that gap and made to work with the converter kit.

My buddy @ good guys installed it for me. Did a good job, the speakers are really tight in there and don't rattle (yet that is). I even got the 2 1/2" tweeters mounted, in between the door handle (on the door) and the vent on the dash. Looks very nice, not obtrusive. Rear ones are mounted right above the seat belt-line slot ...

wow i knew it took some sorta custom fitting somehow when i put em in i soon figured out how damn good they sound very soon followed by my NOT BEING ABLE TO ROLL DOWN MY WINDOW! and as for the back they didnt seem to sit flush enough for me. maybe im too picky but it looked like it needed some cutting.. u got pics of the install? whered u got those spacers? part number maybe? also thats a sweet *** cap u got i like the digital read out...sweet!
