Need advice on upgrading some audio compnents

I'm looking to get an amp and new front speakers (already done the rear) around New Years and was wondering a few things.

1) I think there is a certain depth at which the speakers start hitting the front window. Anyone know what that is?

2) If I want to keep the stock HU, how could I connect the Amp. I know there's a way but I don't know what that is.

Thanks for any advice, and please don't go on a "Just buy a new head unit rant" Thought about it and don't think i want to go that route but if i do, how difficult are they to change?

1)~2.75inches with the 6.5 speaker adapters on ebay. If you make a baffle for the speaker to sit on, you might beable to get around 4inches.

2)Line output converter - attatch speaker connections to it from HU converts them to RCA.

headunits are simple to swap. All you need is the right vehicle harness and match up the wires on the harness and new headunit. then its just unplug old, plug in new. if you pay someone to do it, then later try it yourself you'll be kicking yourself in the *** for paying some guy $40-$80 to install it for you.

1. The mounting depth in the door is precicely 3.001" before window interferance and the maximum tweeter protrusion is 0.791" for our cars but if you tint the windows you may want to keep it around the 2.8" mounting depth
2. 2 words (clean sweep) by JL it is absolutely amazing and will give you preamp outputs and the output will be very clean unlike the high to low level converters

THanks for all the advice. I was out looking at speakers and HUs today and I think I might just switch out the HU too. Seems like that would be the easiest thing to do.

One last question, If the HU only has one preout is it ok to use an RCA spiltter to add an amp for the Sub?

lots of amps have an output so that you can hook more than one together. Using a splitter you could possibly gain some noise and/or loss of signal
