Lug nut security

So I am going out to get in my car for work, and as I am looking at it I notice my lug nuts are missing the only thing holding my rims on are the wheel locks. I work at 11pm and the chance of me even noticing this are slim. Can that be considered attempted murder?

alarm + locking lug nuts == good.

non-locking lug nuts == bad.

I guess you should get 12 new locking nuts so this doesnt happen again

I feel for you... about 6 months ago someone let all the air out of my tires, and then unscrewed the valves on them so they couldnt be filled back up until i tightened the valves back up.

I had to get a ride up to the local auto shop to buy the tool to do it.

Damn Murch, who did you **** off? At least they didn't put mercury in the tire. That's one tha really messes with someone. Just like water in the tire in the winter. Until it thaws the tire is way out of balance. Ya, I've pulled a few practical jokes in my days.

I dont know.. it seemed to be random.

Locking nuts are just a wierd shape... theres plenty of different brands, they just dont fit in regular sockets. The dealer has them as an option for i think $37 Canadian... Or for about that or so at any other car shop.

well when they sell locking nuts they probably sell 1 per wheel, correct? so you'd have to buy 4 sets to completely replace the lugs with locking nuts. i'm not concerned with locking nuts, it would be a nice feature to get one per wheel but that doesn't concern me much, plus it's a pain to change the socket and of course if you lose the key socket . it's just that the stock lugs get so cruddy i want some nice stainless steel ones or something.

well if you buy 4 sets of the same brand they should all use the same key.. Really locking nuts are mostly a detterent. they arent actually locks, just make it a pain in the *** to get your rims off
If you want, pick up 4 sets and get your lock on

Addendum:
While I was waiting for the financing to go through on my car I asked my dealer why locking nuts were listed as an option, but were on every car on their lot. Now the dealership I was at is in a nice neighborhood, and the first week they were open they lost 4 sets of rims off 4 seperate cars. Since they started using the locking nuts, they havent lost any. It would seem they work.

Coincidentially, this was after I had already bought mine

I've had good experiences with McGard lugnuts in the past. They come with 1 wheel lock then 4 lug nuts for each corner. The cool thing is that even though the lug nuts aren't locks, they still need the McGard adapter to get em off.
BTW: Wheel locks are locks. The head pattern is different from set to set, so you need the key for your set to get them off.

Cool. I thought most were identical among sets in each brand. Good to know!

with locking lug nuts they all have a different head (well not true but close enough) I know for 2g eclipse factory locking lubs, there are 12 possible ones that it could be. usually the same way with any that you buy from a store. it's just that you don't know which one you have.

I have 18's one my ride. I went and bought 2 sets of locking from 2 different stores and 2 different brands just so I know if they get one set off it will be different to get the second one off.
