Help: New Headunit with Ipod/Sirius
Help: New Headunit with Ipod/Sirius
Well it's coming to Christmas time again and I was thinking of getting Sirius. But wanted to stay away from the FM transmitter ones. So then I was obviously thinking of a new headunit (I still have the stock one, '02 Lancer OZ). But then I found out my girlfriend was getting me an Ipod so then I was thinking about being able to hook that up to the new headunit as well.
So I can easily find headunits that fit the Lancer and are both Sirius and Ipod compatible.
Now I know that I'll need a Sirius tuner. But my question is with having that is it possible to use that tuner to hook up the Ipod? I see that most have capabilities "To Add Additional Products."
I tried researching on numerous websites but figured it would be better to ask on here since it's all Lancers. I'm leaning towards a Pioneer but am open to any suggestions. So does anyone have any similar setups? What's the easiest way to go about this without 2 tuners, tons of wires, etc.

^^^I agree... You probably could get the iPod adapter from your stereo store or if you dare... radio shack. Some h/u's come with the iPod adapter in the box, Just do you homework.
I am getting the Pioneer AVH-P5700 this week for the touch screen, XM, and WMA compatability but I know it is Sirius and iPod Ready.
The wiring is not that bad for the XM reciever and the h/u should be close to plug and play. I have the XM tuner hooked up on the right side of the trunk and ran the one wire along the right side of the car under the trim. Really simple setup...I just followed the existing wires to the front and had extra wire. I would assume the Sirius setup would be similar. The iPod adaptor is extra hardware to get the going I think like 2 extra wires and the adapter. You should be able to hide this under the dash somewhere plenty of room, just use some 3M mounting tape.

Pioneer makes it so that you can add on...but you can add on more than one accessory.
So my final question is from the Sirius tuner, what kind of jacks are on it. It says you can hook up the Ipod adapter to it, but I was wondering if I wouldn't do that and then I could just hook the ipod itself to it. Basically I don't want to spend $200 on 2 adapters if the Sirius one can do what I want it to do.
So in short, can you hook the Ipod to the Sirius with the "Ai-NET Pass-Through To Add Additional Alpine/Pioneer Products" without the large adapter to use it through the headunit?

Yes Pioneer has a sirius direct connect and a ipod interface the ipod interface connects to the sirius direct connect then the direct connect connect to the headunit via a ip bus cable. If im not mistaken Alpine and Kenwood have the same exact setups.

It also includes a IP-Bus Pass-Through.
The only adapter however I could find converts the IP-BUS output Satellite tuner into stereo RCA outputs.
This is confusing without it layed in front of me. So right now I'd have the tuner and the IP-Bus Pass through with RCA Outputs. I guess I'd need to get the Ipod hooked into the RCA outputs somehow?

Also, with the iPod adapter, you can charge the iPod at the same time. The adapter costs so much because it gives you the functionality of controlling it through the headunit and it charges, so you don't need an extra car charger for it.

Check this one out. I'm getting this one today. It kind of matches our interior. Plus it's all ready for Sirus and iPod.

Just about all Pioneer head units since 2002, even the "XM ready" ones, will work with Sirius. I just installed the SIR-PNR1 onto my XM-ready DEH-P860MP and it works great, although it connects as an Aux device. I can still see track titles, etc.
These adapters use IP-bus, which is all digital, so there's absolutely no loss of signal quality no matter how many devices you chain onto your head unit.
So, go ahead and get the SIR-PNR1 Sirius tuner and the CD-IB100 iPod adapter.
