Alarm Help!!

ok ever since I got my car my alarm has been extra sensitive. I have an 03 lancer es. The car automatically turns on the alarm every 2 minutes and every 30 seconds if the doors are closed. If a doors open and the alarm activates and you close the door it goes crazy. If the alarm activates and a doors open and you try to disable the alarm with the remote the alarm goes off. When I was bolting up my cd player my damn alarm went off. Hell when i sit in the damn car my alarm goes off. It's like a piece of crap. I don't even know if it's aftermarket. What should I do? thanks

Ask the person that sold it to you for the alarm manual... turn down the shock sensitivity and im sure there's a way to disengage the automatic arming.

sounds like its on passive arming....need to find out what alarm you have to turn that off.

On most systems if you cycle the key you disable passive arming for one arming cycle. If you want to sit in the car or are working on it, turn the key off then on then off again and you should be OK. There may even be a siren chirp to confirm this.

First, what type of alarm do you have?

Then we can give you advice as to what to do next, but without knowing what brand/model you have we can make educated gueses but get nowhere.

Passive arming is on, thats why it will arm itself. Whoever installed your alarm turned that feature on as it is programed off from the factory as it is a PITA.

The sensitivity is because or your shock sensor setting. Either it has an interal shock sensor that you adjust thru programming, or an external sensor that you can adjust manually.

Again, without knowing what type of alarm yopu have I cant give any specific directions for fixing your problem...

Where was the shock sensor mounted? Find it and crank down it's sensitivity...

This was a feature of Cliffird/Avital/Prime systems going back 15 years ago. When DEI took over Cliffird about 4 or 5 years ago this feature was included in their systems. Viper, Python, Hornet, Sidewinder, Automate, Ungo etc.

The Clifford engineers thought of it when washing their car and forgetting to set Valet mode and triggering the alarm. It also makes sure you don't leave your alarm in Valet mode making it useless.

You can also open a dor or simulate it by turning the dome light on or just leave the ignition on. The Accessory key position will not work.

Passive arming is a factory defualt in many systems since it is a key determination of insurance discounts. Passive locking is off and I have experienced many nightmares when customers requested it be set.

That sucks. You would think, though, that the installers wouldn't take extra time to change the arming setting to passive, if active was the default (my Clifford Matrix 10.5x has active as the default), assuming active is the default on DEI alarms.

it sounds to me like a bad isntalation beacuse of the door issue, if the door is open it should not arm itself

It will if the dome light times out to prevent you from killing your battery. It will just take longer to arm.

Thx for the responses guys. Well I dont know how to find that shock sensor. Nothings wrong with the door but say if im working on my door and i keep one open. the alarm will activate and then when i close it it goes off and the funny thing is that it takes longer to activate with the door open than when the doors closed. if all doors are open it activates itself in like 30 seconds. if one door is open it takes like 2 minutes. If i pretty much knock on a window when its activated the alarm goes off or if i screw in a bolt. Any ideas on how I can find out what kind of alarm this has w/out taking it to a shop? thanks

also i have no idea if this is the factory alarm, i'm assuming not. someone put some sort of kill switch below the dash but the button is missing. So i'm guessing that was the alarm deactivation switch lol. but who knows now

Try turning the ignition back on and off again. You can also try pressing the lock button, then unlock button and lock button again one at a time within 2 seconds with the door open. This will remote valet most systems. The switch that is broken is the valet/program switch. It was installed in a bad spot and you probably kicked it and broke it. Your car takes longer to arm with the door open because it doesn't arm until 30 seconds after the door is closed (dome light goes off). It has a last door arming feature where if everything is OK it arms 30 seconds after the last dor is closed. If there is a problem it will arm and bypass the "open= trigger point. Say a theif opens your door and your alarm goes off and scares them away. They would likely leave the door open and run. The alarm will trigger for 30 or 60 seconds and reset itself. If your door is open it would instantly trigger again. Most laws now prohibit this and you would get a ticket or imponded if your alarm triggers for more than 2-5 minutes. If the alarm didn't rearm than a theif could easily steal the open car with no protection so the solution is to arm and only bypass the affected part that isn't "normal" if you arm by the remote with the door open it should chirp different, same for the hood, trunk, shock sensor depending on the installation.
