Pioneer Install Questions (kinda long)
Pioneer Install Questions (kinda long)
Well, I recently installed an older Pioneer Head Unit in my lancer. This unit is probably 3 years old, but it's like brand new, because the car it was previously installed in was sold shortly after we installed this unit, therefore I know for a fact that there is nothing wrong with the stereo. The stereo pushed the stock speakers really well and I had pretty good sound coming from those paper speakers.
The problem is, I recieved 2 sets (4 speakers total) of Pioneer TS-G671m speakers for Christmas. I installed the rears (which were a pain in the a$$ because they didn't come with adapters), and to be honest, they have good highs and mids, but very little, if any lows. I wanted these to move, and they look like they're moving, but they are not pushing bass at all. Right now all my bass is coming from the front stock speakers. I reversed the wires, thinking that I might have messed something up and installed these wrong, but it didn't help.
Oh I forgot to say, when I installed the hu, I hooked up my RCA cable with intentions to eventually install a sub, but could that be taking away from the bass of these? I don't see how it would, or else the fronts wouldn't have bass either, and no, I'm not running these 6.5"s off an amp, they are wired directly into the hu.
Please let me know what I can do to make these things sound better, because in past cars, I've had junk aftermarket speakers that sounded better than these.

Wish I could help man..... I know that I have the RCA's hooked up with my Alpine, and so far, I have to turn down the bass. True I only have factory speakers, but so far it sounds good. Maybe the front speakers are full range, and the rears are only high and midbass?

plugging it up backwards will only make the cone hit the opposite direction nothing to do with bass... RCA out has nothing to do with anything either
the front speakers sound like they have more bass because they are enclosed in the door.. the back speakers are free air, therefore the only bass your going to get is what comes off the back window which is easy drowned out by the highs
bass for all speakers is like a sub, it needs to be enclosed to sound good
oh and check the wattages, it might take alot just to make anything happen with them

I think I may end up running these speakers off of an amp, because I just looked at the back of the box, and it reads like this:
Nominal impedance...4 ohms
Maximum music power 260 W
Nominal power...50 W
I have a Jensen 600 W, 4 channel amp, so I may just end up hooking up the amp to all 4 speakers. What do you folks think?
Thanks! -Brad

check your wirings bro. i already got 3 pioneer HU 7500mp, 5800mp and 7800mp in and out of my car and all were great.. what model do you have. probably you need to check the following:
1. wirings to the rear speakers.
2. audio settings in the HU. happened to me once (i thought the rear does not gives any bass but the bass setting were turned off. this only pertains to pioneer 04 or earlier models. what you would do is turn off the HU and push and hold the function button and check if the rear speakers are set to "full or S/W"
3. RCA outputs does not affects the front and rear speakers as what have already quoted.
4. u dont need to run those speakers through an amp since the HU is giving probably 18-22Watts RMS per speaker X 4 which would be enough with the speakers you have.
let me know if any works

Zene you said that. But, when speakers fire out of phase their bass becomes almost non existant. Thats one way of telling if the speakers are wired backwards is to see how much bass comes out of them in both wiring positions.
and i dont know if u can count the doors as an enclosure. Then wouldn't the trunk be an equal enclosure for the rear speakers? Besides all coax/component speakers are meant to be run as a free air design. No enclosures are required.

the trunk is too big, its like sticking a sub in a auditorium and calling it an enclosure, and yes they are meant for free air, but show me a good speaker that will give u good bass holding it in your hand.. about the same
Alright well I checked all the wiring from the hu to the speakers and everything seems fine. I found out some info on the amplifier though, it is a Jensen xa4150

FYI...your speakers are fine, they are designed to reproduce mids and highs primarily. Lows will not have great definition with your standard 6 1/2" speakers. Stock speakers will reproduce lows all day long and have minimal mid-range and decent highs if you are lucky. So your best bet for lows either to back to stock or get a sub. My recomendation is to get a sub. Check out some audiophile web sites or talk to people who are into the stuff. Circuit City or Best Buy also Crutchfield. So leave your speakers they are fine.
Well I plan on getting a sub, but I was thinking about a few things, sorry if they sound stupid. First off, the head unit is a Pioneer DEH 1400.
Second, what if I created an enclosure for the rear speakers to fit in the stock mounts? Like make a small "bucket" type enclosure out of mdf and mount the speakers in the stock location. Would they have better bass this way? Would it be even better if they were powered by an amp and in these buckets?
Also, would it be possible to run all 4 speakers off of 2 channels, and have the other 2 channels powering the sub? I figure on buying something like a 10" pioneer like this one:
http://walmart.scosche-cars.com/prod...ductID=4891523
I'm going to mount the amp under the rear seat, so that it's out of the way, and mount the sub in a box and just set it in the trunk for now, but eventually I want to flush mount in with the floor with the sub going down into the spare tire space (don't worry, i'm not getting rid of the spare), but that will take a little while to fab up.
Please let me know what you think. Thanks! -Brad
