polk momo or kappa perfects
polk momo or kappa perfects
I'd like to know what would be a better high end to go for? I think I've narrowed it down to either Polk MOMO or Inifinity Kappa Perfects which I hear so much praise about. If anyone has opinions on which may be better, please let me know. I listen to mostly rock/metal/alternative music if that would help the comparison.
I need to replace my Alpine Type-R 5.25 component set because they distort with barely any power thrown at them. I have a 50wx2 alpine amp not even set at "nominal" power and the tweets crackle and woofers seem somewhat muffled. The Type-R subs are great though....

it depends how much your amp can push. if u have lots of power, go with the MOMO, if not go with the Perfects. The MOMO's take a LOT of power to push and get a good sound out of them, if u have an amp that's 450+, i'd say u can push em pretty well.
Hank should give u some other details.. right Hank?

I think it depends on if you're looking for competition subs and plan on having a minivan full of em.
No matter what you get, I think you'll have a hard time matching the sound quality of the Infinity's or the overall Perfect's power to sound qaulity ratio. Hence the name. Then again, if you listen to music with your windows down just so you get looks at your loud-*** system, go with what ever is louder.
****, if that's your thing you might as well go with Fosgates and some hydros.
J/K get the Infinity's. I must sound like an infinity commercial as much as I give props to them in these threads.

Yes MrMeaner.... Right on indeed (whatever the hell that means)
Anyhoo. You're looking for components in the $200 - $250 range? (not even sure... didn't look at prices online, just gonna write tonight... too tired to do homework) For that kind of money I'd definately dodge Polk and Infinity and head straight for Focal, Crystal, Image Dynamics, or CDT. I'm not saying I've got anything against Polk or Infinity (though the infinity's are a bit bright for my tastes) I'm just saying there's better sound to be had for the money.

Is that better? If you take twenty seconds to read above, using what we highschool grads call "C O N T E X T C L U E S" you'll notice, my post was in direct response to what was just posted. I think you're right, you are tired, and grumpy I might add. Go back to sleep.
What appears directly above you happens to be a post by otrebeht talking about what he was actualy asking for. So maybe I was reading it, since you know... I did answer the question and all.
But to reiterate my point in a much more awake state, the MOMO components look the part, but aren't as clear as some other components readily available in a similar price range. The infinity components, though revered as some gift from god around here, tend to be a little bright for my tastes.
For a lot of rock/metal/alternitave, I'd reccomend a set with a nice titanium tweet, it'll make the cymbals and electric guitars really shine. The Crystal CSc60t is a VERY nice set, at a reasonable price. (look here: http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/CRYCSC60T )
But, since it's speakers, and everyone has their own tastes, I'd suggest you get out there and listen to every set you can find. If you happen to be in the MA area, you're free to come listen to a set of Crystal's, as long as you move quickly since they're being un-installed this week.

personally, i like pioneer's rev components. very reasonably priced (check out www.pricegrabber.com) and they will fit the lancer for sure. you might want to check mounting depth on the crystal's.

pioneer rev's are very nice and for a good price, but i think you will get better sound from the crystal's or some focal's if you have the money. i have the alpine components that are above the type-r's they are the type-x's and sound awesome, but they are more than the $200-$250 range. suggested retail is $400, but you could probs get them for around $300 if you haggled a bit!!
I have 2 MOMO 12's and after i got my amps set where they needed to be they POUND I love them and wouldent trade them for the world I also think the kappas are a bit more sleek and clean hitting but nowhere the earthshattering bass. I just came out of an Alpine type-r10 before i got my MOMO"S and I would never go back. Plus it looks bad ****in ***!
Edit: but as said before there are better subs for the same money and worse subs for more. you just have to decide what sounds good to YOU!

Nero.... bro... seriously bro. We're talking component speakers here. Not subs. But you did hit on one of the best rules for purchasing any sound equipment.
"you just have to decide what sounds good to YOU!"
Because not everyone's ears are the same, and not everyone looks for the same sound. If we all did, we'd all be running the exact same stuff, in the same locations. (<egotrip>Yeah, you'd all be running my setup! </egotrip>)

if you are deciding between momo or infinity...i'd say go with infinty perfekts....they hit harder because the surface material of the tweeter are made of aluminum rather than silk dome. but may i suggest to you Diamond audio component series M55.1. I have all four corners in my lancers with diamond and they hit really clean and loud. if you want sound quality, go with these, but if you just want loudness...go with infinity. momo is not really a "high end" component. anything that sells at circuit city, good guys are not really high end...if you can, get some focal components, they don't hit as loud but they are crisp and clear. I also suggest not getting any MB quart sets because of the price. they are hella good speakers but they are also over-rated...if you can afford, then go with MB, but if $ is an issue, go with diamond audio.
