single most important upgrade

hi ladies and gents,

i have a 2008 lancer GTS with NO s&s option but im thinking of getting an audio upgrade.

i dont have a lot of $$$ so i can only make one change that makes a big difference. any suggestions?

i'm thinking amp+sub, but what else is there that i should know about?

audio

like all audio equipment I would be sure that when you get a amp and sub combp to make sure everything is compatible, also have someone professionally run your wiring or get in contact with someone who is educated in the are. subs are great if you have never had them, but they can cause some problems, and you will feel lonely if anything ever happens to it! good luck and hope everything works out!

New head unit.

You can do amp and sub if you want, but I really think that crap is overrated (but then I pretty rarely bump to the bass). Getting an aftermarket head unit will give you MUCH better sound quality. I've gone with a basic lowend ($100-$200) Pioneer in each of my last 3 cars. It's always been SO much better than the stock unit. The sound is usually louder and clearer. And there's generally presets for the type of music, which help a lot. And there's also usually more options for fine-tuning the music.

Headunits are universal. All you need is a wiring harness and maybe a kit.

I'm not sure what the new Lancer's have for headunits, but the IX was atrocious and I would have to agree that is the first thing to upgrade audio-wise.

I got a Pioneer AVIC-N3 for my Evo but I later got an Alpine CDA-9885 for my truck and for $200 - $300 on sale, I like it a lot! The integration with IPods are outstanding and I can still play compressed music off of CD (MP3, etc.).

As rcheung stated, all you need to worry about with a headunit install is a wiring harness and possibly a fitment kit.

The only way is to do a custom dash kit that'll enable you to fit your aftermarket HU into the OEM dashboard. SLS can do it jappaswat call them up and see

I have put a system in my car and I can say that my sub and amp did not benefit from the stock head unit. I replaced 4 door speakers that made a huge difference!!! but I would suggest swapping out the head unit.

hope that helps
