Question Sub BOX!!! HELP!!!

i am looking for advice from everyone on a situation i have with my subs. i used to have a 1200 watt sony xplod sub in a bandpass box, but the ports caused too many vibrations on the trunk top even after a complete dynamat job. i then switched to two polk GNX subs in a sealed 1 cubic foot box, but they didnt hit hard enough. i just bought 2 infinity 12" subs today, and am planning on using the same sealed 1 cubic foot box for these subs, but it is recommended that the box size be 1.25 cubic feet. will it be ok to install these subs in this box or will it hinder their performance because they are in the 1 cubic foot box? what do you guys recommend, besides a custom box.
1. Sealed 1 cubic foot box will be ok
2. NO you must buy a 1.25 cubic foot box
3. Bandpass all the way?

Please help me decide, THX!

the recommended size is generally smaller than what you should make so yea, 1 cu ft is really small for that sub. Cause i used to have my pair of 10" infinity reference subs (im guesing thats what u have) in a 2 cu ft box and it was just a little small for it but it had good sound. It hit hard and very accurately but there was no boom to it.

It depends what kind of music you listen to but i think 1 cu ft is just too small for those subs. Put them in a bigger box, it'll be worth it. Make your own, it's tedious but not impossible to do.

and bandpass will kill your subs over time..it may be loud but i dont like it, not enough SQ.

Your box is too small. Fo 'rill.
Prefab bandpass eats a dick, and not in the good way.
Prefab boxes in general: See above statement.

My advice to you, build a box. about 1.5cuft per, seperate chambers, OR, 3.2cuft common chamber. You'll save money, be able to finish it to match just about anything, and it'll be stronger than any prefab box ever dreamed of being.

Either that, or drive out to MA, and I'll build ya one for some money.

Thx guys, the only reason i wanted to keep the box was because i paid nothing for it, but i guess I will look into getting the 1.25 cubic foot box although i went to the infinity web site last night and it has the subs db results from being tested in a sealed 1 cubic foot box at 300 watts and 2.83v. Not sure if this is a recommended size or just how they test them. but you guys are right i prolly will never consider a bandpass box ever again, and i should fabricate my own, but im just toooo lazy lol. i think i will go buy the 1.25 cubic foot box today thx.

I was an installer for 13 years and I sell stereo systems for a living. Your preformance will suffer some from the box you want to use because it is not the appropriate size. If you do it you won't hiurt the subs but they will not be as loud or as boomy as they can be. If you can afford it have a box built for the correct size, if you can't...it's ok they will work. Bandpass boxes were originally made for hatchback cars anyways. They don't preform as well as they can in a trunk.

i understand exactly what your saying dragon, but the recommended size was off of a circuit city website, and i kno from experience half the things they post are incorrect but if you go to the infinity home page, they state that the correct size sealed box to use is 1 cubic foot exactly unless it has ports or is a bandpass the size differs, i am still unsure what to do
