Safe to have speaker w/no box?
I'm having 6x9's that play out the trunk, and i was wondering if it is safe for the speaker to play with no box whatsoever.
Also, i'd like to hear what you guys think about my idea.

well... if you don't mind it sounding like *** warmed over, then yeah... that'll work.
Basically, an enclosure serves a dual purpose; it not only allows for an acoustic suspension (which is why they're almost always necessary with subs), but it also keeps the compression and rarefraction waves from the speaker seperate. Without really getting into the reasons behind it and the physics, let's just say it's really good to keep your "front wave" and "back wave" from a speaker seperate. If the back wave sneaks around to the front of the speaker, it cancels out a front wave. Causing less precieved output, though the speaker is actually working it's little *** off.
Basically, with those running just like that, you'll end up with a muddied sound with little to no real output to it. The very least you should do is run them IB (infinite baffle) to do so just cut a hole in a board, and size the board so large that those pesky backies can't sneak around it.
Your cheapest and easiest option is to probably go to walmart
where they've got 6x9" boxes for sale extra cheap.

and what's the point, well i stand outside my car and listen to music a lot and it would be good to have speakers facing out the trunk.
