door panel removal ? (to get at speakers)
OK, I've done the easy part of my audio system - the rear speakers, and the bit harder part - the head unit. Now it's time to replace the door speakers. Any tips on removing the door panels to get at them? Does the whole panel come off or just the botton 2/3? (as it looks like it might be 2 pieces). I see where the covered screws are, but is the panel also held on using plastic clips so that I need to pry the panel away from the frame and not break those? Any help is appreciated!
Just did mine yesterday.......keep in mind speakers are oversized 6 1/2's
ok, the whole thing comes off......two screws with the little cap over them, one in the door tray and one in the door release. after that u have to take off the surrounding of the door release (hard part) just work with it a little to get it loose. Yes it does have those plastic snaps all around it so u still have to pry them off, then u have to lift the whole panel up to detatch the window rail. Finally disconnect the auto door controls (clip wire...easy). That should do it. Send me a message if u get stuck.

I'm proclaiming myself door master. I've disassembled and reassembled my doors more times than I'd care to talk about. Anyway, it's pretty simple and straight forward. Very few screws, mostly plastic pins that pop out. My advice is to avoid messing with the door locks (my handle's spring popped out of place and it was a serious ***** to put back properly). Yeah...any other help you may need I can probably help too. HobieKopek on AIM.
The only difficult part is putting the weatherstripping and entire door panel back on without giving yourself an aneurism.

Thanks for the help guys! It was a piece of cake. I had both doors done in less than an hour. I have a couple hints for anyone else wanting to do this. First, buy the door panel removal tool that Crutchfield sells. It will allow you to pry off the panel easily without damaging any of the plastic pins that hold it on (if used properly of course). As they say, the right tool for the job makes all the difference! Secondly, the hardest part of this job is fooling with the trim piece that is part of the door handle/lock mechanism. The handle and lock are mounted on this, as you can see in the picture I've attached. Once I struggled with this on the first door, I was able to see how it worked once the panel is off. To get it loose, push forward on it and then slide it towards the front of the car and then pull it towards you. It should come undone without any problems. Of course reverse the procedure to mount it again. When going to take the whole panel off, this piece will shift just enough to allow you to fit it through the hole in the panel.
Again, thanks for the help, and I hope this helps others.

On Evo X, don't mess with door release handle
On my 2008 Evo X the door release handle is part of a plastic piece that is screwed onto the back side of the door panel - and you cannot / don't want to try to free the door panel from it (until you have the door panel off and can get to the screws from the back of the panel).
This is an old but useful thread. I wasn't sure before I started popping off the clips and didn't want to break anything.
Thanks!
