capacitors?

I'm looking towards getting a capacitor since I'm almost finished with my audio set up. I don't want to spend over $200 and I've been leaning towards the Batcap 400, any other suggestions or comments?

get a cap and you will be MORE than happy. Why get an extra battery that weights 15-40 lbs, when you can get a nice capacitor installed thats maybe 4-5 lbs?

The size of the cap you wanna get depends on how big of an amp, how many amps and how many watts you'll be pushing.

I got a Power Acoustik 1.2farad Capacitor for $70.00 shipped from Etronics website. I have a 1200w amp pushing 2 10" subs and the digital indicator on it NeVER drops below 14.7 ...

just my thoughts. I'm not an audio or electronic expert but I know that having a cap is awesome. My headlights don't EVER dim when the bass hits, and the bass hits HARD and often.

Ok i dont no why i get sucked in so eazy. As i understand it cap charge/discharge VERY fast , 1/10 of a second. So you are buying a cap to suply Voltage for your amp and you spent any where from $70- 200 buck for that, why? Ive played with some cap's and found they do NOTHING at all to mantane the voltage for 1-2 sec burps . So waste your $$ how you want , i yet to see a cap's preformance to justfy the cost. get a 2nd batt your damn lights will stop dimmin .

One mo thing if you GOT TO HAVE a cap these werk www.batcap.net but its goin to cost yaaaaaaa

yeah i've heard those are good thats why i'm thinking about getting them, and i can get them for pretty cheap. i was just seeing what other options there might me.

my set up is (1) Diamond Audio 1200.1 amp (2) 10" Eclipse subwoofers (1) Diamond Audio S600s Hex (1) Mb Quart Coaxials and I'm going to add another amp either a Diamond Audio 600.2 or 300.2

should i really get a battery instead of a cap?

dont listen to the idiot sayin caps dont do anything, the cap makes a hell of a difference, you highs will be clearer cause you wont have the sub strainin your battery, another battery in the trunk is extra weight and a waste of money

a cap did nothing in my setup.
I am going to try getting a deep cycle battery next, if not... then second battery it is.

oh I'm running a kenwood 1000w amp that powers my 10' W7 and a rockford 250 watt amp that goes to the jl 6.5's I used to replace the stock speakers.

caps do a lot more then just supply a 1-2 sec voltage surge. theres a reason why they are called "stiffening" caps. the MAIN reason they are used is so you don't get a voltage drop when really hard bass hits (ie. useing a ****load of power). if your voltage drops too low when its trying to push out so much power you can blow your amplifier or your subs. it will most likely clip and send a distorted signal through your amplifier and speakers which can destroy them. caps prevent that and sustain constant voltage.

just putting a cap in won't usually make a difference if your going to push a lot of power. you can't just upgrade one thing and expect it to make a huge difference. its like adding an intake....doesn't do much unless you add an exhaust also....then you see the full gain effect.

most of the time you need to get your alternator rewound to be able to put more amperage out. thats basically the best way to not have your lights dim and to keep a constant voltage. stereo systems in cars put a LOT of strain on the cars electrical system. even if its not a lot of power.

I agree with the zlancer.

except for how long they discharge. Discharge a capacitor and see if it lasts a second.

beef up your alternator. caps only hide the effect of a undersupplying electrical system.

I have owned caps before and I dont think Ill buy them again.
