Mitsu lied to us?

So the ads for the Lancer that I saw b4 I bought it talked about 100 watt stereo. The speakers are only 15w each 15x4=60, so are they basing this on the stereo's potential? 25x4 ? Or was this blatant false advertising. Either way I'm very happy with the stereo upgrades so far. Just wish I could afford both sets of speakers as well as head unit and subs/amp at the same time...can't wait to finish.

Perhaps it's 15 watts RMS to each speaker with 25 watts being the maximum output

could be, but that'd be super shady imo. if the speaks rms@15w then they shouldn't be rated based on their spike handling potential. for paper plates tho they sound good.

Yeah, Nevertheless whatever the true output of the speakers may be it still has a full all around sound IMO.

The head unit is rated at 25 watts over 4 channels. The speakers aren't. Sometimes it really does make a lot more sense to upgrade speakers before head unit. The stock head unit actually ain't half bad, and neither are the speakers considering they're made of paper.

I don't know **** about speakers, output, head units, subs, amps, etc..
So whatever the hell kind of power is coming out of those paper cones is enough to keep me happy.

Read up. If you're at all interested in sound there are tons of guides out there. Crutchfield has pretty good guides and explainations. Not to mention they're great for browsing products...but not always the cheapest to buy at. On the other hand...if you should ever need customer service they're friggin' fantastic.

EDIT: I will NOT allow you to be content with your stock system.

Yeah I actually get Crutchfield catalogs in the mail quite often. Quite a few of my friends have systems an stuff. I know a few things but not enough to be content with. I don't really listen to much music that needs alot of bass or anything. I just need a full, all around sound...

Actually the stock speakers are really good. With a signal amplifier hooked up to them they sound great as good as any coaxial speaker you'll find in best buy for sure. Don't knock em just because they're rated low they can handle quite a bit of power. I was pumping them with 75 watts RMS power from my JL 300/2 and I loved them.

They can handle power, but they distort at high volumes and they're not nearly as clear as my kappas at any volume. Damnit, Cliff. You're supposed pull him to the dark side. You of all people.

Again not true Hobert. They handle excellent at high volume with sufficient clear signal and power(watts) which the JL Audio 300/2 was more than willing to provide to all 4 paper coners.

I think they're decent at low volumes, but I can make them distort without much effort off the stock head unit. all that bass in ya face made you lose ya hearing cliff. They're o.k., but I really can't believe they'd handle 75w without distortion, not gonna do it IMO
