i think it would work the same as if you were to open the hatch. it sounds better with the hatch open, so i assume takingout the piece will do the same. ive been wanting to put bandpass tubes in it, but i have an amp mounted behind it so i cant. oh well

I had a plan of doing something similar a while back, but never had the money to make it.

Behind that plastic there is a board. So there is more than just the removal of the plastic thing. What you could do is build a custom ported box and have the ports aligned with the arm rest.

Or if you want to complete my older project, feel free.
The arm rest is 8" wide. So basicly you could fit the Kicker S8L7 in there. It's a square sub that requires a very small enclosure.

If you kinda see the idea I'm getting at, you know what the rest would be. I posted a picture of that a while back, but I can't find it anymore.

People might flame me, or says I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, but hey who cares I do notice a difference. I do have better acceleration when my whole system is turned off. I'm not talking about 20 pounds of torque, or 20 hp difference here. But it is noticeable

If you're porting a box, the subs and port should face INTO the REAR of the trunk. This is the best way to do it and will go the loudest. The ONLY time you put the port facing the front is when the whole trunk is sealed off from the front of the car and the trunk is the enclosure, thus the sub and the port are in the area that opens into the car.

99% of the time, though, go with rear ported/firing.

Ya, it should go louder with it open, as long as your subs and port are facing the rear of the vehicle...

Get a capacitor so the power is not running off your alternator.

well

if you take it out there's a piece of metal behind it unless you're considering cutting out that metal that's part of your rear seat out then forget it i mounted a custom made carbon fiber piece there and mounted a digital fuse block there
