video monitor

not sure if this should be in here or audio/security but here it goes. I bought 7.2in in dash video screen from e-bay, unfortunatly it dosent have any installation instructions or wire lables on it,(bummer). I was hoping that u guys might know Im guessing the yellow av (female) is for video in, and the red one on the harness is 12v cause it has an inline fuse, but there is also a black, green, and yellow on the 4 wire harness and a also a white a/v (male).

Hey, ok, well heres what I think they are

Yellow--->Positive from the ignition
Red------>Positive 12+ Volt
Green--->Ground

Yellow AV in--> Video In (from dvd player, ps2, etc)
White --------> Audio in (mono sound)

Hook up a dvd player to the yellow av in and the White/Red from a dvd player to your regular stereo (like in pioneer systems you can buy an adapter for the AUX port where u plug in the white/red cables to have sound) then all you do is select AUX from the stereo menu to get the sound from the dvd player or w/e you have plugged in the AUX port.
hope this helps

Yellow--->Positive from the ignition
Red------>Positive 12+ Volt
Green--->E-brake tap (to make sure u dont use the screen while ur driving)
Black---->Ground

Yellow AV in--> Video In (from dvd player, ps2, etc)
White --------> Audio in (mono sound)

illizit is 90% correct. Black is the ground and green is the e-brake tap.

the e-brake tap is a ground signal...if its not grounded then your TV won't work

either hook it up the right way or rig it with a switch just in case the cops pull you over u can convince them it only works if the e-brake is up

From what I understand,

I dont think it is illegal to rig the e-brake wire, but it is provided because any shop will not install it without installing that safety feature along with it.

If anyone knows for sure whether it is actually illegal for you to gi it yourself, can you let us know, I rigged my own system that way so I am rather curious, (not that I would change it!)

Ok first off I used to be an installer at a local shop here till I joined the cable company. The YELLOW wire needs to have a constant 12 volts, even when the car is off. The RED wire goes to ignition. Black is ground, and green is E-Brake. But like someone else said you need to ground that for the tv to work. And yes shops do ground out the brake wire, 3 different shops I have worked at did

Sirjames... what did you do with the green wire? did you ground it to the same spot as the black? or did you just not use it?
