i need enlightening

ok im undergoing a new system in the ol lancer since my last one was stolen a couple months ago. this time im going all out(along with an alarm and lots of dynamat)

so far i have got 2 rockford fosgate P3 12" subs,
a fosgate power 1501bd(1620rms), sony M8800 mp3 player
and next week im ordering fosgate T162C 6.5" component system(contains 2 6.5" speakers and 2 crossovers and 4 tweeters)
and two more 6.5" fosgate speakersto finish the front of the car.

to power the 4 6.5" speakers and 4 tweeters I am ordering a Fosgate power 551x(600rms) along with a dual amp 4awg wiring kit
o yea and 2 fosgate 1.0 farad capacitors

my question was how to i wire the 2cd amp(551x) with the front speakers and crossovers and tweeters. I dont even know what the h*ll a crossover is?
the amp for the subs is no problem but i have never wired two amps together before so i thought i would ask before my stuff arrives and confuses me!

since the 551X is a 4-channel amp, you'll bridge it into 2 channels. You'll then go from the amp with 2 sets of speaker wire to the crossovers.

What the crossovers are (in nice easy words) is a box that splits the sound up into what each speaker (tweeter(s) and speaker) should get. The speaker gets the mid and the upper bass and the tweeter only gets the high frequency it should.

Somebody on here (i'm sure) will say to bi-amp it, but I'd probably rather have the extra power of bridging the amp than the (minor in comparison) better SQ of biamping.

ok thanks that makes sense but i dont think i am gonna bridge it because my 6.5's only hold about 120 watts peak so it might be a bt much to bridge it
thanks for the info keep it coming!

Bi-amping involves using seperate channels of amplification for Mid and Tweeter. Usually a higher end way to go, but often involves quite a bit more equipment (read also: active XO) which is why it's frowned upon by many. The sound quality difference is only noticable to the RTA, and sometimes not even to it. IMO, not worth it unless you're ****, or at the top of your SQ game.
