Question About Sub and Amp
Question About Sub and Amp
Well it looked like my audiobahn 8000d killed my 10in visonik sub, when i pressed in on it, it was rough going in like sand paper
so i put a new sub in, and it again stopped working, this time when pressed in on it, it was not rough, but when i pressed in far enough it seemed like the sub was getting power again and working and trying to bump like i was making contact with something making it work
any ideas?
ps i had my visonik in there for over a year, so i dont think i gave it to much power cause it was at a descent level which i usually have it on

your sub is blown. You have "bottomed it out" and it's rubbing in the gap. Same as the other sub, just not as severe. Sometimes turning it on with the volume all the way up will break it free for a while. You are probably over gained and clipping your amplifier and will blow just about any sub you put in there. When you take that sub out, since it still has a good voice coil, plug it into a wall socket for some fireworks.
Make sure the gains are adjusted and that your crossover points are correct, The latter is not as important on a sub, but if you are really overworking your amp, you subs will never last too long because you subs is distorting constantly, (sometimes not audible) from the bad power it is getting from you amp. turn your gain down, a bit, or get a more powerful amp so your gain is not set up so high so the amp clips and sends some raw current to your sub.

Well if that is the case, and you had the amp gain at 1/3 the total, there are other questions I have,
What is the Max imput voltage allowed to that amp via RCA's ?
What Is the Voltage out put of your deck or line driver?
How loud was the music playing when you think the sub broke?
What Impedance were you running the sub at?
IF it is not your set up, and you fried two subs, you amp could be not working right and just eating subs for lunch. your real test would be get another amp in there just for a short time and see if it is not a problem else where, I have seen amps do funny thing with just a bad pair of RCA's or a funny wire set ups with power, ground, speaker wire etc.
It is hard to make that distinction on the web, but when **** blows up it is usualy the gain on amps or the second reason is user error or installation error.

Exactly, that also isn't the highest quality amp on the market and could be outputting some DC to the speaker.
