Last night was having the worst night of my life. For those of u who dont know I like lots of loud music!

After about 50 miles or so I switch cd's first song was a loud ass bass hit (M.Mansons Tainted love cover) then all of the sudden i heard a BOOOOOOOOOOM! and all the bass quit. So i geek out again cause this was really out of the blue. So i pull over real fast and look in my trunk and BOTH MOMOS WERE FILLED WITH SMOKE
I MEAN FULLLLL like i could not see the sub.

Any reason why that could have happend?

Overpowered and probably distorted. You smoked the coils. The cones are probably frozen now also, correct? (can't push it in or out)

Just one of the risks when playing the bass game. It sucks, but it's what happens. Hope you've got a warranty, there's no fixing them. Next time just watch the gains.

well i made my first one pulp too! that was when i was running just one. peek power is 1k and i run em at about 760 each. There is no warranty cause i got em direct from polk at about 1/4 of the cost.
It seems like I have heard about a recall on em cause of the glue having some sort of issue. heard of that anyone?

Guess thats an idea..... I heard em they didnt sound all that bad lots of deep bass, but not for me. I'll just buy two then take em back.

Man it says they can handel up to 1000 watts how can i blow three of them? Everything is set up right all my wires are run perfectly I know cause i go over them over and over, what the hell else could it be?

How clipped is the signal you're sending them? That's the biggest cooker of subs, is distorted signal. I run well over my power ratings on most subs, but hardly ever have a problem because the signal is clean. The wires aren't the problem, the signal is.

Turn your gains down.

clipping will kill your subs so will too much bass. i have not blown a sub yet but i have almost froze 2 JL 12s with only 440 watts. i am now running two mmatts at 1300 watts at 1 ohm and have had no problem. keep you signal cleen make sure you have a good power supply (as this may aslo lead to clipping and dimming of the lights). another thing is make sure you have a crossover. this helps clean up the bass and keps the freq in the subwoofer's range

ya my raido clips at 34 and goes up to 35 when i have smoked em they have been around 30 i never go full blast cause its hurts a brothas ears Im not exactly sure whree my subs clip...
Think i might need a bigger cap and a crossover?

ahhh, you must work at a polk retailer like i do. i get all kinds of deals on polk, infinity, klipsch etc.

Where the radio clips is only one of the factors... you really want to adjust the gain on the amp. You want to be able to turn the radio up as loud as it'll go without the sub distorting.

A good rule of thumb for setting up gains on amps is to turn the gain all the way down. Now set the radio at 75% playing something exceptionally bass heavy. (I like to use test tones... but apparently not everyone has 10 or 12 cd's of them just kicking around) Now slowly adjust the gain up till you hear the begninings of distortion, then back down some, a bit past where it goes away. After doing it this way, you shouldn't blow anymore subs.

There are multiple other ways to set gains, and this is just one... probably the least reliable one... scratch that... you already used the least reliable one... this is second. Other methods include using a lab scope, a peizeo buzzer, 3 cigarettes and a quarter, the bones of a dead chicken and a silk sack... But really, that's all competitor ****... just use the above method, and don't ***** that it's not as bassy, because as much as people like to think it, the gain knob is not a volume control.
