Question F M U... What do ya do?

...I have two questions....

There is a fuel upgrade called FMU (fuel management unit...) and it comes 12:1 or 10:1. My understanding, which is probably wrong, is that it ups the fuel pressure to supply either 12:1 or 10:1 compression. They run on EBay for about 100 buck, if you don't know exactly what I am decribing. Anyway, my questions are , how does this item work and will this help a non-turbo but moded car? I have Header, downpipe, cold air, and a wide-band o-2 sensor (to name the main ones). IS THIS MOD WORTH IT?

Thank you very much for your help...

Fuel Management Units like a Rising Rate Fuel pressure regulators are for use on Forced Induction cars. The whole point of it is that when the unit is pressurized it allows for more fuel to flow through the system. So to answer your question it is pointless on your car. I would just get a normal bolt on FPR to up your fuel to support other mods. IE intake, exhaust.

Best place to buy FPRs? Just go by the brand name and reviews. Nobody really complains about AEM FPRs but they are expensive. Aerotech (sp) FPRs have both good reviews and the bad ones. I have B&M Command FLO FPR and it sux. I maxed it out at 43psi at idle. For N/A application it's usually fine but not for FI.

Oh and FPR will also give you better throttle response. Not much tough.

A FMU is for just boosted cars. What it does is raise the fuel pressure. Here, (12:1 FMU) For every one pound of boost you make, it adds 12psi to ur fuel pressure and so on. Ex. For 4 pounds of boost you will up the fuel pressure by 48psi. Thats on top of ur stock fuel pressure. At a higher fuel pressure more gas can be supplied. But the bad news is that u are over working ur injector and make force them to stick open. I wonted worry to much about that tho. Since the fuel pressure is so high ur stock fuel cant delivery that much fuel. Also, FMUs are only good for up to about 7psi. You can only max out ur fuel pressure to like 110-120psi at most. But once you get that high anyway u need to get better injectors.

For N/A just get the piggyback box from RRM. I believe on the N/A they actually leaned the mixture out. I think our cars run like a 14:1 a/f or something and RRM being it down to make more power. If i was u i wont worry about fuel with a n/a like urs

i've been running a PB ECU for quite some time now and the more i seem to mod, the more a FPR seems necessary. after the intake mani the car really leaned down a bit. the PB ECU corrected the fuel curve as expected but under WOT i hit a couple flat spots the bored fuel rail helped a bit but yeah.....FPR helps out a LITTLE bit once you start mod'ing the car. until the intake mani i didn't really find a reason to buy one.

thank u fer ur wisdoM! That's a couple hundred bucks saved, since I'll never have the $$ for turbo, however some people have sworn that even for n/a its a good piece to get, thoughts?

^^ read my previous post. if you plan on staying N/A i would recommend getting one later down the line. it's not a HP mod, it's just a supporting mod. all you will really get out of it is a much smoother powerband, a little bit of throttle response, and more consistant fuel pressure (not that the OEM FPR is inconsistant). if you are one of those SHOW NOT GO guys --> the AEM one looks nice. hahah.

isn't the RPW FPR a rising rate regulator? i haven't looked at it very in depth but i thought i read that somewhere. it is something to consider before your purchase
