Break In: Ride hard or like your from florida
I've heard conflicting views on breaking in an engine. Some people say to ride it hard and you'll get the best performance and of course they still recommend warming the car up first. And others say to stay under 3k rpms and under 70mph for the first 500 miles. What does everything think about this?
I personally think you should drive it the same as you plan to normally. I don't believe that babying an engine is going to make much difference. I would rather find problems early. The only thing I would do is change the oil rather soon, to make sure there is no metal in it.
Car talk yesterday morning (Dec 7) recommended constant change. My stop and go-fast and stop and go-slow... commute was probably good for the engine. But yeah, too hard and you'll burn our thin rings and they might have to polish the glaze off of the cylinders if the oil isn't doing its job. Good news is that the lady from the show got her rings and polish covered by her warranty (it was a vw, I think). Also the break in is between 2500 and 3000mi.
CarTalk has a section at http://www.cars.com and they have an audio archive that even works on my slow *** 56K connection. You'll probably have to wait until the middle of the week to hear it again though.

I'm all about driving it like you normally would
I've know people who have done it for years and never had a prob, but thats just my experiance and, suggestion. How you drive your car is completly up to you

For the Lancer my Uncle (Owns a mitsu dealer) said try not to take it passed 4500 in first and 3500-4000 for your other gears. For about 500 miles. Then you can get more and more aggressive. You have to break in the transmission softly in the lancer.
