Cold air intake...

Just a few questions....

I'm in the market for a relatively inexpensive cold air intake for my 02 OZ Rally. I'm not looking to "trick" out my car, just enhance it's performance. I don't have a lot of money to spend, but I'd like to see what people out there think is good and reliable. I plan on installing it with a friend. He's pretty good with cars since he rebuilds them from time to time, but I don't want something that is too complex to install. Any recomendations to look in to?

Thank you.

I say go with the aem or injen cold air intakes. They are fairly inexpensive in the 200-300 range. Easy to install an hour or less.

I've had an Injen RD1830 for about a year now and it's working fine. A friend of mine put an AEM intake in his '02 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V and recently caused him nothing but problems.

I said habit. I didn't say that they all died.

That is a Spec-V, not a Lancer. Apples to oranges.

I dont know what your doing to it then but I had a AEM CAI in my Lancer for 1.5 years and it has been fine. Are you sure you installed it properly?

Blacksheep I am going to keep an eye on you.

Yes the Injen intakes did have a habit of breaking but they reengineered the intake mounting bracket to handle more vibration and supposedly cured this breaking phenomenon. Those mounts on the Lancer that is.

I had one for a year or so and had no problems. Just wanted a short ram so I sold it. I really can't tell the difference besides the intake noise being closer to me now. (Louder)

Ah. Then I apologize. I just know that for a while, everytime I saw the word Injen, it was near the word broken. In light of Wadad's comments, I apologize to Injen and anyone that I steered incorrectly.

You should be a lawyer. What an apology. I don't think I have seen someone turn around quite so eloquently.

Anyway much of this info might have been before your join date not sure. I guess reading through all these posts for nearly 3 yrs you pick up a thing or two.

It's just like hyundai's and Kia's. They aren't nearly as unreliable as they used to be.

CAI and a short ram intake give about the same gains, I'd say 1-5hp... If you have a manual you can get a CAI but if you think about it you are getting the same gains as a SRI. An SRI system is cheaper and just as effective. I have a RRM cold air intake... good stuff... I'd highly recommend it.
