Those are most likely your valves, they make this sound when "cold" It's all good our engines are cold start engines, they take a while to warm up and then purrr...

lifter valves... the mitsu engines are notorious for that problem. They dont cause harm tho, just an annoying ticking sound. Turn ur music up to drain the sound out, lol.

Your flux capacitor...

Seriously though... no need to worry about every single little noise the car makes. It's not like our car is supposed to run 100% quiet. If that wasnt the case then what is that loud grumbling noise that comes out of the pipe thats behind the car? It gets louder when i press the gas pedal and goes away when i turn the car off

If you got lifter tick, then they need adjusting.

After my engine warms up I can hold it at 2K and hear something loose could that be a loose lifter or valve? But when I drive I don't hear it.

Yeah my car ticks.... It sounds like it comes from inside the intake mani...

Plus if I shift it into Neutral (auto) it stops...?

It is either valves or throw-out bearing dpeneding where its coming from. If you put your clutch in and it goes away its the throw-out bearing, if not its the valves.

I have that same noise on my 5 speed lancer ( valve clatter at approx 2000-2500 rpm) its not my t out bearing either.

Friggin dealer will not do anything about it. They said its normal wich is a crock. I have an extended warranty up to 75k and I am about to do the 60 K warranty. I hope they find something when they do that. Cause mitsus and blown valves are a known issue.

"blown valves" please elaborate.

When I did my headwork and reinstalled my lifters, the hydraulic lift adjusters had mostly lost their oil. When I started the car the lifter noise was unbelieveable. It took a few minutes, but the little bastards finally filled with oil and are very quiet now.

If you're having excessive ticking, check your oil level. it may be time for a change anyway.

The other thing that's been put forward is excessive noise from the injectors. Possible, but I wouldn't then expect that that noise would go away above a certain RPM.

My throw out bearing is making all kinds of noise after only 30k. That cant be normal.
