I was looking through mitsubishiparts.net and had a question about the ground cables. They don't have any photos, but it's under the ES catagory. Does anyone have a photo of these installed and tell me if they're worth it?

Mitsubishi's official website also lists ground cables, but like many of its accessories there's not a photo available.

 

There's not much to it. It looks just like any other grounding kit without the round distribution block like a HKS circle earth or the cheapo e-bay specials... Heck, you can build your own if you're not too keen brandname...

 

I understand what a ground system is and what it's for. I Google'd it and found they all roughly cost the same, about a $100. But what I haven't been able to find are pics of them installed on the 4G94 engine.

 

a lot of guys on here have grounding kits installed. are you specifically looking for the mitsu one?? to be honest, i don't think it will matter if you get the mitsu one, or you get a cheaper one. a lot of guys make their own.

 

I think there is a thread somewhere that actually shows pic of where he mounted each wire to be grounded. crap, I did a search on this a while ago. Lemme see if I can find it.

 

hrm, maybe that's something for me to do this weekend, build a grounding kit... hrm

I think the point LancerMMC is going is that the kit might tell you where to put them for optimal results (assuming they'd done testing, which engineers tend to do... ). Or at least someone who can attest to an improvement from having them (I never felt a difference).

 

if I could find someone out this way that would let me borrow a dyno, or maybe a palm/pocketpc dyno tool, I would have no problem doing a lot of testing and experimenting to find the best connection points.

 

Easiest way to do it is to look up the major grounding points in the manual... On the EVO there's 5 or 6 in the engine bay... It's hard to get to all of them though... Out of the 5 or 6 I got 4 of them... On top of that, I have one that goes to the tranny, 2 to the head and one on the intake manifold... There's no set rule to this so just put it where you think it goes best whether you're after best look or best results...

 

I was looking around eBay and found these. Typically I'd be cautious about buying performance related materials on eBay.

honestly there shouldnt be too much of a difference. Alot of guys on here have a wide range of grounding kits from the home made ebay ones to the expensive brand name ones. Where people mount them also seems to vary.

What I've heard though is that they really dont seem to do too much. Since our cars are pretty much new, they shouldnt have any electrical problems with grounding yet. Thats something you'd typically see on an older model car when the connections start to fail.

The most I've heard of the grounding kits doing is that when you're lowering or raising multiple windows at once it allows them to close or open faster.

Still some people feel that they do make a difference so they will get one or make one. So to answer your question...I think you could get the same results from an ebay made one as you would with a brand name one. Unless of course the brand name one happens to be made drastically different.
