Smile Rebuild Engine?

My dad and I are considering buying an engine, rebuilding it, and installing it in my Lancer Ls. We're thinking it would be easiest to buy a Lancer engine and rebuild that. But the idea of using an Evo or Ralliart engine is also a possibility. We're looking for an engine that will fit easily and be capable of good performance after some hard work is done. Has anyone done this before? Or does anyone have any suggestions on which engine to use? Also, I know that I can buy one from Ebay, but is there anywhere else that sells Lancer engines (used or new)? I'm thinking of becoming an automotive engineer, so I thought this would be a good way to find out if that's the right career for me. Plus, I figure I can get a pretty good hp gain from this. Any help or information is greatly appreciated!

After doing some more research, the 4G63 might work well. Anyone have any suggestions or information?

RPW suggested Engine Swaps ranked from best to worst.

1.

4G93 SOHC 16 valve engine - rated 86kw factory (Cheapest and most effective upgrade of all upgrades) for all 1.6 models. Direct bolt in with only ECU piggy back needed.
2.

4G94 SOHC 16 valve engine - rated 98kw factory (Expensive at this moment but within a short time will be a great option)
3.

6A13 SOHC 24 valve engine - rated 120kw factory (larger capacity means torque, bolts right into the car, readily & cheaply available)
4.

6A12 DOHC 24 valve engine - rated 120kw factory (smaller capacity but better breathing)
5.

6A12 DOHC 24 valve Mivec - rated 150kw factory (Our 2nd highest recommendation but getting up there in value)
6.

4G92 DOHC 16 valve engine - rated 130kw factory (Proven only produces approx 110kw with NO TORQUE & very expensive to find)
7.

4G93 DOHC 16 valve engine - rated 100kw factory (Hard to find but worthwhile to fit.)
8.

4G93 DOHC 16 valve turbo - rated 160kw factory (Even harder to find)
9.

4G63 DOHC 16 valve turbo - rated 206kw factory (Can be fitted, requires major modifications to balance of vehicle)

here are the suugestions from rpw...have fun!

A good way to find an engine would be a salvage yard. Run a search on www.car-part.com and maybe you'll find something in your area.
