Running Way Too Rich

Ok now b4 you tell me to run a search, I all ready did. I found a lil info but I think I just got more confused. Ok the mods I have are a Intake, test pipe, and axle back exhaust. My car has all ways ran a lil rich with thies mods. I put my Kamikaze Header and down pipe on today and when I started it up the richness smell was twice as bad. The only thing I can think of is that I need new gaskets , I dont have one were the header and down pipe connects b/c there was not one in the box. I was planning on getting one tomarrow thoe. Well my mane question is how do fix my car from running rich, please any info will help thanks.

Eh...I don't think you're running rich. I think it's that you're missing your second cat. Hence the smell. You could try air/fuel management a la S-AFC or E-manage, but I think it'd be a waste of money considering the mods you have and the probably cause.

EDIT: Make that NO cats.

What exactly is your definition of "running rich?" I mean, saying that you're running rich with exhaust mods really can't happen, unless you upped your fuel injectors and restricted the air going into your engine in some way. Now, it's possible to lose back pressure, and thereby lose off the line performance.

Sometimes, I love my sig.

Are you judging how rich it's running just by the smell?

Like HobieKopek mentioned earlier, it probably has to do with not having any cats. I know the smell your talking about, as I experienced that too after I installed my high performance exhaust system. I also have an air/fuel ratio gauge, etc. and the car is running fine.

So does your car still smell like that? And did the air/fuel ratio gauge help?

hehe my car smells soooooo bad...don't worry about the smell of the exhaust. when you take the cats out of course its going to smell different because you are not filtering out your exhaust gas

There ya go.

I noticed a smell in my car when I replaced the second cat as well, so it's nothing new. You can imagine the effect of removing the first cat on top of that.

Yes the smell changed. People were telling me I was running rich according to what they were smelling. But my air/fuel ratio gauge was saying otherwise. Nothing had changed. I don't think you need a gauge however. You don't have a turbo with a boost controller to worry about boost and fuel amount. With the mods you've done the ECU will have no problem adapting.
