Help! Headers melted radiator fan
Help! Headers melted radiator fan
Okay.. so my car was having all kinds of problems so i took it in for a tune up.. found out my headers are heating up to the point that they melted my radiator fan... what can i do to prevent this from happening again(and why did it happen.. haha) and umm.. where can I get a radiator fan aftermarket??? Mitsu wants to charge me $700 to special order one and install it!
EDIT:: btw.. headers are the Kamikaze header+dp combo
Please help... figure the car isn't safe to drive without radiator fan.. (or is it? haha
)

Holy crap!
How the heck does that happen!
Sorry to hear about that. THe best way I think to find a fan is from a wrecked Lancer. Try your local junk yards, or try searching on here for those parting out wrecked Lancers. Also, find out if the fan is the same for the EVO, Ralliart and Lancer, since there are several parting out now as well. Sorry to hear about that and I sure am glad I have my RRM header!

don't know... cuz rrm is an open header as well (doesn't have a heat shield like the stock ones) ... i think mitsu is lying to me and they melted it with a blow torch!! (not really.. but wouldn't surprise me)
oh.. and kamikaze comes witha a downpipe.. thats the only difference really

There was a recall for 02-03's on the fan switch. Did you go in and get this done?
If not I bet that a non working fan would allow the engine bay to heat up to the point where it might have melted your fan.

Yeah that kamikazee is prone to opening up where the DP connects to the header with the copper gasket and ****ty bolts they give you. The hot exhaust leak is easily enough to melt the fan. Get a paper looking 3 bolt gasket and some grade 8 stainless bolts with lock washers.

The header is not the issue. I've been running my Kamikaze for over a year, and my fans are still intact.
If you want to get a new fan... get the slim fans.Same as the ones provided with thr RRM turbo kit.
