Breakin?

The Lancer I am taking delivery of tomorrow has only 26 miles on it. Should I worry any about a break-in time for this engine?

YOUR WRONG! ha i dont know for sure, check your manual that came with the car it might say. Umm I was told stay under 3k rpms for the first 1000miles but 4k is good for 1st gear.

Try the link for a different approach on 'breaking in" and engine. This is only my opinion anyway, do what you will.

I wish i heard of the rough break in before i got my car. Oh well.... i drove the car gentley for the first 200 miles, then i ripped in to it. I was told by several people that its really only the first 50 or so when the ring lands are sealing that matters. 500 is way too much.

There's no such thing as babying your car too much. A well broken in engine will be better off in the long run.

80 Should be around your peak in 3rd. That shouldn't be effected at all by break in. It's all gearing.

The break in period is generally a good idea, but it more applies to high performance motors than it does to enconomy car motors. For instance, if you read your owners manual, it says something to the effect that the motor is a modern design built to close tolerances and that while not required, a break in period will help the parts to wear into one another better and reduce the chance of oil consumption later in the motor's life.

Check into most motorcycle break in periods, and the limits are very clearly spelled out. Do not exceed 5k for the first 600 miles. Do not exceed 7k for the first 1000 miles. Change oil at 1000 miles. Do not exceed 10k for first 1200 miles. These limits are put into place because the motors are not only very high performance (specific outputs exceeding 200 hp / L in some cases) and very high revving (+15K), but they need to run reliably for several years.

Chances are the engineers who designed the motor in whatever vehicle you drive know more about the break in and wear characteristics of that particular motor than you do. Is it really that difficult to not beat the hell out of your new car for a month???

Talking IT IS MORE THAN GEARS!

On my Lancer I do a little bit pas 60 so y think Im doing arround 62 or 63 on 2nd, but the cool things is than on 3rd I hit 85 east and past a littel big more.
I heard people says that the Lancer is no capable to get more than 115 in top speed.
I can say , you guys are wrong! Radar tested top speed on my Lancer 132mp. On 15" wheels on 17" wiil be alot different.

Off course my Lancer is not stock, is all trick out. But nothing on the gears, the tranny is as it come from factory.

ps I taped the speedo all the way down.

EDIT: Retyped exactly as it was with proper capitalizatoin.
