Exhaust Idea

okay, pretty soon here i am going to have a 2.5" custom catback system with a test pipe. i will be using a straight trough muffler, like and apexi n-1 style or so, w/o the silencer. i am guessing that this is going to be louder then loud. i was wondering if splicing in a glasspack resonator, like a cherry bomb, right after the cat would help quiet things down a bit.

actually it will make things very loud, I had my camaro set up that way and it would set off car alarms when I drove by. But the cherry bombs gave a nice follow-through vroooom pop pop pop

cherry bombs muffles a little but not enough unless you're running long sets mine were short and loud.

long sets would slow down the exiting exhaust and hamper performance, which is why I assumed you would be going for a short set.

are you sure thats what you want run on your lancer?

this is how it would go on my car...

1. testpipe
2. flang to 2.5" piping
3. about 1 foot of pipe
4. glasspack muffler
5. piping all the way to the back
6. straight through muffler

but glasspacks are cheap. i just want to know if that will quiet things down by splicing it in. a guy i know at my local autoparts store has a *gulp* honda. he spliced in a glass pack and it quieted down his exhaust quite a bit.

i do want it loud, but not SUPER loud. i am just thinking that having a test pipe, 2 1/2 catback and a straight-through designed muffler, like the apexi n-1, will be very loud. i was wondering if splicing in a glasspack into the existing system just after the cat will act like a resonator and quiet down the system a bit.

If you haven't gotten one yet, you should get the Buschur test pipe cuz it's 2.5" piping.

Why not just keep your stock resonator on there. After they take it off and weld on the new pipes, have them weld your resonator back in its place. With test pipe, Apex N-1 muffler, and 2.5 piping you will still be plenty loud. You say you want it loud but not SUPER loud. It's hard to know how loud you want it exactly.

I don't think a Buschur Test pipe exists. I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the downpipe, GR.

No, I remember seeing Buschar having a test pipe on their web site. I am almost positive...
