Power steering and Auto Fluids

OK becuase i have have been auto-xing my car a couple friends have told me that i should change all my fluids to redline. now please keep in mind i am not looking for an opinion on this fluid. in the manual it says diamond ATF for power steering and diamond ATF SP III for the auto transaxle. i went to the local auto store and couldn't find anything that had anything close to these names. anyone have some ideas? i would like to just have the fluid changed here soon since i have been pushing it really hard at the auto-x and the dealership wants like 150 for a tranny flush and another place wanted 140 for it. now keep in mind my dad's 4x4 yukon would only cost 99 bucks to have it flushed. they tell me it is special Mitsu fluid they have to use and it is more expensive. no i forgot to ask him what it was i know stupid me. anyway any ideas would be great thanks.

Re: Power steering and Auto Fluids

The "Diamond" fluid is most likely just Mitsubishi's own brand of fluid, nothing fancy so don't worry much about it. Find out exactly which type of fluid it is, and find the generic counterpart of it, you'll save a bunch. Next, if you are going to get your work done at the dealership, expect them to rip you a new one. I don't drive a Lancer and I don't know how tough it is to do all your fluid, but you can probably do most of them.

If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about your PS fluid or even your ATF. Just keep checking your ATF fluid level... BTW how old is your car, and how many miles? Keep your engine oil fresh, and bleed your brake fluid more often if you're being really hard on your brakes. Use ATE Super Blue Racing Brake Fluid, great stuff.

it will be 2 years old and has 16k miles on it. i have been autocrossing alot in the last year and the fluid is getting a lil darker than normal. i plan on using amsoil for the atf fluid since it is the only i found that specifies diamond spf on the package. don't want to go to the dealer since they charge 10 times what it shoudl cost in my opinion. just having a hard time finding some info on changing it myself though

16k miles on tranny fluid is not bad at all but if you insist on flushing your system, it's no big deal either. Amsoil is an excellent product, IMO, don't think you can go wrong.

I am planning on changing my ATF soon as well since I practically auto-x getting to work. Hopefully makes the tranny shift better and not so jerky.
