If you get a multimeter, you can have a friend ride along and try to find the correct pin. Im not sure where the ECU is located though. Also a shop manual might have the electrical diagram. You can verify it with the multimeter. I think you will see a rising voltage as the frequency (speed) gets higher (more on time than off time).

I work on electronics for the Marine Corps, so i will try to give you an idea of where to go on this. An electrical diagram is your best place to start, it is a must if you want to do it correctly and safely. once you locate the ECU, you can then find which wires are which. most wires have numbers on them so by simply looking at the wires coming into your gauges you may be able to do it all. otherwise you can use the ohm function or diode test on the multimeter and test point to point and find which wire is which; however, i am not for sure if the leads will actually reach, but it is worth a try. very important though, power must be OFF to do this, otherwise you could blow something up or fry a wire. if the leads won't reach there are possible ways to bypass, but it takes a little bit of explaining to do. your best bet is finding a wire diagram with the wire numbers. if you have more specific questions, you can e-mail, joshkikta2@hotmail.com, and i am not opposed to a phone call if i can help you. hope that helps.
